24 feature film confirmed by Kiefer Sutherland, set in London

The long awaited and rumored 24 feature film has been confirmed by Kiefer Sutherland. It will be set in London. Here's the excerpt from TV Guide:

24 Movie: Big Ben Is Ticking....
In an interview airing tonight on BBC One's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Kiefer Sutherland reveals that the long-discussed feature-film version of Fox's 24 will be set across the pond. "We'll shoot the film here," the actor says on the London-based talk show. "We're really excited about it." Sutherland divulges no further details as to a start date or storyline, but I've got Chloe covertly rerouting a node into a socket for me, so I'll keep you posted.

I saw an interview on 24inside.com and Joel Surnow, 24's executive Producer, said the movie will have little or no connection to the TV series. It will be a big budget action movie with Jack Bauer as the hero saving the world. The movie will take place over 24 hours in a 2 hour flick.

Getting out of LA. That's probably a good direction for it to go. I'm surprised they jumped all the way across the pond and didn't do something like New York, DC or Omaha

It's cheaper to film overseas or in Canada. Unions...

I'm a little disappointed we aren't getting 24: Operation Nightfall or 24: A CTU agent is selling stuff to the terrorists and Jack will bring down Christopher Henderson for it even though he'll be wrongly accused and the real bad guy is Nina.

Yeah. This was brought up in the inaugural issue of 24 the magazine and in the Rolling Stone issue with Kiefer S. on the cover.

In the 24 magazine they ask him about it and he says every time they come up with a great idea for the movie, they end up using it in the show.

This really could kick ass if they just focus on Bauer for 2 hours and drop all the ancillary crap that makes the show so idiotic most of the time. I bet even after he saves the world (again), no one will believe him when he says, "YOU HAVE TO TRUST ME!!!!"

Sounds awsome. I kind of hope since they can show more in a PG-13 movie then in a television show they exploit the new limits. Can't wait to see it.

Now how many times can they fit "we're running out of time" within a two hour time span?

What? You don't think it'd be great movie storytelling if a CTU techie refused to help track down a terrorist during a time-sensitive situation because Chloe took his sandwich from the fridge and ate it?

actually, i don't think they could get away with alot of the violence thats on the show in PG-13 land. (too much blood in certain scenes.)

Agreed. It's much like how the X-Files movie was pretty tame compared to the show in parts.

Actually only part of the movie will take place in London. The Producers want to film the movie in a couple of international locations.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jack Bauer unravel a plot in two hours of real time.

Minus end credits, that will leave about 4.75 minutes for each hour ..... this could be an exhausting experience!

Or, they could call it 2.4 if it was 2 hours and 24 minutes.

I've read rumors that a 2 hour '24' movie might have the structure of the first half being the first 23 hours of the day and the second half being in real time for the final hour....
I think that premise would work well.

Hit TV show '24' coming to big screen: report
Thu Jun 8, 6:37 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The real-time TV thriller "24" is headed to the big screen under a deal between movie studio 20th Century Fox and the show's producers, trade paper Daily Variety said on Thursday.

The Hollywood publication said no deals are in place with the cast, although star Kiefer Sutherland -- an executive producer of the series -- has said he would like to reprise his role as sleep-deprived action hero Agent Jack Bauer in a feature version.

However, the paper said the "24" movie would likely abandon the TV show's distinctive real-time conceit, meaning that all the murder and mayhem will no longer be squeezed into one day. A rough plot outline has been drafted, but no details have been disclosed, it said.

Fox, a unit of News Corp., struck a deal with series creators Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, who will write the script, and executive producer Howard Gordon, who will work on the story, Daily Variety said. The feature could potentially shoot next spring and summer during the hiatus between season six and a likely seventh season of "24."

The critically acclaimed "24" series, which airs in the United States on News Corp.'s Fox Broadcasting unit, saw ratings improve by 14 percent for the just-wrapped fifth season, with nearly 14 million viewers tuning in every week, the paper said.
