Stephen King: "11/22/63" (releases on 11/8/11)
Just got this email:
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination.

Definitely looking forward to this. I really enjoyed Under the Dome and felt like King recaptured some of his old magic with it so hopefully that continues with this book.

This will probably be longer than Bugliosi's book.

Yeah, going back in time to stop the (Lincoln/JFK/Franz Ferdinand) assassination is only slightly less cliched than going back in time to kill Hitler. About the only thing that could make this interesting would be if Oswald is having Johnny Smith type visions that Kennedy will start a nuclear war over Vietnam, and the time-traveler ends up destroying the world.

Was tempted to do the Robot Chicken take on M. Night and say, "What a tweest!"
...But I like that twist!

Shouldn't they release on Nov 22nd instead. It is a Tuesday as well.... or is 11/22/63 released on 11/22/11 too confusing.

Sounds interesting. I thought Under the Dome was a great return to form for King, so I'll probably check this out.

FYI, Cemetary Dance will be producing slipcases for this. I have them for a couple other King books (Under the Dome, most recently) and will probably pick one up for this forthcoming novel as well.

Other books, TV shows and movies have touched time travel stories like this. But I'm interested to see how King will take it own. I read a synopsis of the book on a couple of sites and I have a feeling that synopsis sort of gives them something away about the purpose of the main character.

I'm in. I always like time-travel stories, and to this day Stephen King has never written one - until now.
This isn't the "Stephen King Writes The Bible In His Own Words" epic I wanted, but this will do, since it will obviously have many historical figures featured within, and King's interpetation of them will be the juice of the apple.
I also like the fact that I just stumbled on this - news of an eminent novel by King always peaks my interest.

The concept is similar to a short story by Theodore Sturgeon "Yesterday was Mondy", which was later adapted into a New Twilight Zone episode, "A Matter of Minutes". In those versions the main characters or "actors" are thrown ahead of time and witness odd workers constructing the world "set". Like The Langoliers, the story also has the set being demolished after time has passed by.

I like it, too bad I'll be getting it on Kindle and missing out on that cover. (Unless there's a friggin' sweet deal for the hardcover like there was for Under the Dome.)

I'd really like to get the Kindle version too, but the pre-order right now is $16.99. It will probably drop, but I wouldn't be surprised if the hardcover and the e-book wind up being the same price.
