Oh for fuck sake part 2. First, "Annie" with Willow. Now this. What the hell is going on!??

It's been a while since we had an update on the development of the remake of the 1954 musical A Star is Born (which itself was a remake of the 1937 film of the same name). We'd previously heard that Gerard Butler might be up for the lead male role to star opposite chart-topping singer turned actress Beyoncé after rumors of Russell Crowe's involvement seemed to be false. Now we have big news for the gestating musical though as Deadline reports Clint Eastwood will not only produce the project for Warner Bros., but he will also direct the film from a script by Will Fetters (Remember Me). But what's going on with the male lead?
Well apparently one hasn't been found yet, but WB has been trying to get Will Smith involved for awhile. Deadline likes the sound of Sean "P. Diddy" Combs stepping up to lead the film (he's had some decent dramatic roles in films like Monster's Ball), but just thinking about a Clint Eastwood movie with P. Diddy and or even someone like Jon Hamm. Personally, I'd like to see somebody like Alan Cumming or Neil Patrick Harris step up for a musical like this. It sounds like the studio is trying to go for a more traditional leading man though.
As for Eastwood directing a musical, it's not as if he doesn't have experience in the music department. The actor turned director has also been scoring his own films including Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, The Changeling and Gran Torino (though he worked on the score with his son Kyle and jazz musician Jamie Cullum). If Eastwood brings Cullum in to work on A Star is Born, then I will immediately be excited for this project. His renditions of Singin' in the Rain and original songs have been part of my favorite music collection for awhile. Stay tuned as this wholly intriguing project develops. What do you think?

I think Will Smith is just a name being thrown around. Hopefully!
Someone on another board suggested Robert Downey Jr. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Hey, any actor who can shoot an extended love scene with Barbara Streisand without appreciably recalling in disgust or throwing up a little in his mouth is a master thespian in my book.

Uh....CONVOY?!?
Case closed. Kris Kirstofferson rocks now and forever.

Back to the subject at hand. I truly hope Eastwood comes to his senses. All joking aside, if this story has to be made again, someone with the pipes of Beyonce would be a good fit. Problem is, she's not an actress. So it's bound to be camp. Is there a working actress now who could pull this role off? Someone who can act AND sing? Again, if it has to be done at all. Which I don't think it does. Dead horse.
