"And Now For Something Completely..." Wrong??
Haven't been around in a while, but I knew the folks here might be able to help me. I have the reissue of Monty Python's "And Now For Something Completely Different" DVD that came in the 3-pack with Holy Grail and Munchausen. Recently I've seen the standalone reissue in a full-sized DVD case, and on the back it gives the aspect ratio as 1.85:1. I do recall that the other two films in the 3-pack were 1.85:1 (albeit not originally), so I assume that may be why this one says that, even though my slim version has the same cover art and says 1.66:1. Of course this is also Sony who is famous for lying about aspect ratios on their covers.
Since there hasn't been any word about a Blu-ray of ANFSCD, I'm concerned about getting the ORIGINAL aspect ratio. Given that it's a UK film, the 1.66:1 seems like it would be the original AR, but of course there's IMDb saying it was 1.85:1. I know that some films like Dragnet were released on DVD in 1.66:1 because it shows no black bars on widescreen sets, but then a 1.85:1 version came out because it was correct. Then of course that was a US film.
So, does anybody know what the OAR of ANFSCD was, and whether the standalone DVD actually IS 1.85:1? I don't want to miss out on having the film in OAR if it's never coming out on Blu-ray, but I also don't want to spend $9.99 and find out that A) it's not really in 1.85:1 or B) it's in 1.85:1 but that wasn't the OAR.
Help! Thanks.

This is an interesting question since the irony here is this "movie" is a compilation of clips from the TV show. Did it retain that TV ratio or did they crop the footage to make it theater friendly?

The film, released in 1971, consists of 90 minutes of the best sketches seen in the first two series of the TV show. The sketches were remade on film without an audience, and were intended for an American audience which had not yet seen the series. The announcer (John Cleese) uses the phrase "and now for something completely different" several times during the film, in situations such as being roasted on a spit and lying on top of the desk in a small, pink bikini.

This film was my introduction to Python in the early '80s.
