Gamera: Guardian of Universe & Gamera: Attack of the Legion Blu-Ray
Has anybody heard anything about this? Mill Creek makes blu-ray?

Did they pick these up in an ADV fire sale or something? And would it have killed them to make it a triple feature, perhaps on two discs? These two without the third is extremely frustrating, unless they're planning on pairing it up with the "young Gamera" reboot from a couple years back.

I'd love to own the Gamera trilogy on Blu.....but not from the likes of Mill Creek. Why couldn't a better company have gotten the rights?

Why not include part 3? It was already rare enough on DVD. I hate myself for not buying the trilogy box set at Best Buys all of those years ago. Unless they can pair part 3 with the fan made part 4 or the young Gamera it's gonna suck. I was hoping Shout Factory would get around to these for DVD releases. But Millcreek .... Blu-Rays from Millcreek? I have had to contact them for replacement disc on just about everything I have ever bought from them. Millcreek Blu-ray scares me a bit. But they have to get 3 in there some how.
Hmmm ... I am not allowed to post URL's it seems. But I am sure you all know where the official Millcreek site is. They have a page for this Blu-Ray which has a PDF ad with all of the details on it.

The transfer on the first movie was an atrocity. It was an old broadcast or VHS master, non-anamorphic letterbox with subtitles burned into the black bar (that get cut off if you zoom on a 16:9 HDTV). One of the worst-looking DVDs ever.
The master used for that DVD was certainly not HD in origin. Just in order for Mill Creek to issue this on Blu-ray at all, they must have at least licensed the superior master used on the Japanese DVD (which didn't have English subtitles). I'd hope so, anyway.

i got an email from Amazon saying that the movie won't be out until the end of the month, MAYBE. They have no idea. I'm just mad that they waited until release date to find out when they have a release date guarantee.

I am going to go see if I can find this to buy anywhere. The only real review I can find is right here ...
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gamera...Blu-ray/15523/
... but it was listed 2 days ago. So who knows?
I was shocked to learn just now that the star of both of these films, Ayako Fujitani, is none other than Steven Seagal's daughter! Look for yourself ...

Well I am off to find this movie.

This site gives a decent overview and provides an image of the back of the sleeve. Doesn't appear to be any supplements, which is a shame considering just how much stuff was produced for these films during their initial DVD releases in Japan (one huge reason to keep the ultra-loaded, comprehensive DVD box set from Japan if you have it)

Mill Creek Has acquired the rights to Gamera 3: Revenge Of Iris and plans to release a Blu-Ray edition sometime in 2011.
Anyway, anyone have any clue about the real release date for the first two? I have seen some on eBay already, BTW.

I have it and have watched it. I think it looks great! I don't have any of the earlier releases on dvd to compare with. But for less than $9 shipped, it's a great bargain!

Re: Gamera: Guardian of Universe & Gamera: Attack of the Legion Blu-Ray
Watched both films with my brother last night along with Gamera: The Giant Monster (on DVD) in a little Gamera marathon. The menu plays clips from the first film as you choose which of the two films you want to watch. Selecting one auto plays the film. You have to bring up a menu that pops up as the film is still going. The menu is for both films allowing you to go into set-up or scene selection for either film. Yes, the film is in widescreen. Yes, it has the original Japanese language with English subtitles. You can put it in English dub if you like. (But why would you?). Both of these movies looked great!
I only ran across the ADV DVD trilogy one time in Best Buys and passed on it. I never found it to buy or rent thereafter. So I have never seen "Legion", "Iris", or the fan made "Part 4". In fact I knew very little about the "Legion" movie. Wow! Awesome film. "Legion" would make a great enemy even for Godzilla. I am very impressed with this monster and the scale that it is in. I can't wait to see the "Iris" film next year.
I have a confession to make ... this was the first Blu-ray my brother and I have ever watched. I don't have a Blu-ray player, he won't buy/rent Blu-ray for his PS3, and wouldn't let me play my one owned Blu-ray (Snow White combo pack) because "It wasn't worthy of being the first ..." he said. So this was the first one we've seen. Being a 1995 film released by Millcreek of all companies ... I can't really compare it to Blu-ray quality. My Snow White is coming up next but look how old that movie is.
I need to see a recent special effects filled movie to really see what Blu-ray can do. (Nope, never even saw Blu-ray playing in stores. That's how hellbent I've been clinging to the DVD format.)
Anyway. two excellent films for a very low price. You can get it for around $10. Add it to your collection today. I don't know if it will show up in mass quantities and sit on store shelves soon or be hard to come by?
