DD - Coming Soon: The New and Improved DeepDiscount.com
Not sure what they are up to. This is just a heads up to keep an eye out to see what they come up with.

I get the idea they are going to allow people to sell stuff like on Amazon.
Update: Looks like I was wrong about that!

Does every e-tailer have to turn into a goddamned flea market?

It seems they are expanding their inventory selection. If they want to compete with Amazon, then their shipping has to be up to par and their site design needs to be completely revamped. It's 2010 and their search function sucks and they still don't have a way to cancel an order through the site.

The new site is up. Been trying to login for 20 minutes now. No luck. It just waits, and waits, and... Also I have a 19" monitor and the page is wider so that is a pain as well. Hopefully they will tinker a bit.

O.K. I logged in. They are working on it for sure. It's working better. They are also in the process of transferring Wish Lists, Order Histories, etc... so it should be fine soon.
Looks good too.

Re: DD - Coming Soon: The New and Improved DeepDiscount.com
Well... I *much* prefer the "old" look. They are using those awful rotating java "animations" for sales (you know, show 1 wait 5 seconds rotate to the next, etc.)... I *HATE* those. Plus the new site, at least for now, is slower than molasses on a cold day. I've been waiting 30-60 sec. for *each* page load, even longer to view "all" the titles of a bargain/sale page. ...and... 1 "view all" request just timed out... after ~2 minutes. I've been waiting over 5 minutes for the DVD "Deals" page to load. Oh... they're also using those "drop down" menu things. Hate those too...
Did they test this first? Get real user input (instead of just from the designers)?
OK... a half hour later and it's running somewhat faster...
BUT... while they've added the ability to select the number of "matches" per page, sort preference, view by grid or list, and added a "view all" to the page select drop down, *NONE* of these are kept! You must select them every time!!! And wait for the page to reload between each choice!!! When you enter a search, discover it's misspelled, and click in the search bar to correct *IT CLEARS OUT*!!! Yes, there's a box over to the left that shows you the search and you can copy/paste this back after correcting. Very lame! Why not just allow editing in the original box as before. Oh... and if you should want to "view all" you'll lose the cover images. Again... lame. And, just like before, if you search DVDs the default changes back to "all categories" which also sucks. It should stay on what you previously searched for unless you change it yourself.

Re: DD - Coming Soon: The New and Improved DeepDiscount.com
It'll take some getting used to. The order history page does have a cancel item(s) option which would be a big improvement. Funny my order history is missing my last three orders which shipped yesterday and the 19th. Noticed a movie I was interested in getting isn't showing up on the site now. They were supposed to be carrying more titles not less.
And they now have gift cards I see.

This morning it's working better. It also helped a bit that I upgraded FF to 3.6 (only after verifying my favorite plugins would still work).
Search is still flaky. Stuff you *know* they carry does not show up doing a search.
I guess the thing that truly bothers me most is that now it looks like lots of other sites. A very generic sort of "cookie cutter", "oh, that code's already written", "gee, we just did that for XX", type of site design. I'll get used to it but is it truly better? Only if they actually populate those extra informational tabs.
I *still* hate the way drop-down choices are *not* saved, the auto-clearing of the search window, the way the type media you search for is *not* kept from search to search, the rotating offers (just like thousands of other sites - cookie cutter design)... I'm sure I'll find more...
I should add that product images are now in list mode when "view all" is selected. I didn't look at this before the browser update so I don't know if it's a browser thing or just another "tweak" as they get up to speed again...

View All has always been list mode w/o pics.. Which I always thought was not that good of an idea.. cause sometimes folks know movies by pic not title... lol

It won't let me check out. I get to the payment page and after submitting my card info, it just loads and loads and loads... great, that's how you really instill some confidence in consumers!

Re: DD - Coming Soon: The New and Improved DeepDiscount.com
The site is still very broken. Some parts work others do not. *MANY* searches return nothing or very little, even on titles they show under sales. Just try searching for "Jeeves" (as in "Jeeves & Wooster"), you'll not get the series, even though it's listed under one of the sales as a link which works!
I'm growing *very* tired of this. Come on DD... get it together! I think I'd be firing the "developers" right about now and rolling back to the old site!
