On the last Bombcast they were talking about the rumors about a N64 Classic and they were all saying there are barely any games anyone would want to play on it (they were having a hard time coming up with 5) and I was flabbergasted. I know the SNES has it beat but just going through the list of N64 games I easily picked out 50 or so that are either popular or hidden gems that would be awesome to have in a collection.
Not even going too deep in the catalog I could come up with a solid 21 game list (not my list of what 21 games I would want but a list I could see them doing. Let's assume they can't put in any games that are in Rare Replay or get the rights to Goldeneye):
Super Mario 64
The Legend of Zelda: OoT
The Legend of Zelda: MM
Mario Kart 64
Donkey Kong 64
Starfox 64
Diddy Kong Racing (criminally underrated)
Pokemon Snap
Kirby 64
F-Zero X
Super Smash Bros
Wave Race 64 (not my thing but people like the series)
Paper Mario
Excitebike 64
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (people love Turok)
Star Wars: Roque Squadron
Ogre Battle 64
Mario Golf
Mario Party (I'm going to assume at least one of 1-3 would be included)
Pokemon Puzzle League
Harvest Moon 64

Missing YoshI Story and Pokémon Stadium, but a decent list.

Pokémon Stadium would be missing a ton of functionality without access to Red/Blue. To that list, I'd add 1080 and Bomberman 64.

As to Mario Golf, I lost weeks to that game. May be my favorite on the system.

Mario Party 1 would require the N64 Classic to come with gloves. No way I'm paying that extra cost!

The inevitable N64 Classic is less appealing to me; one because I never owned one (although played a lot of the games), and two because the graphics hold up much worse then the 2D NES/SNES games.

Yeah that is an unfortunate aspect of the N64 (as well as PS1) is that a lot of the graphics look like shit now. I will say though that most of the games Nintendo did in house still look good. Super Mario 64 remains not only my favorite 3D Mario but one of the best Mario games ever and still looks good. I play the version on DS still every now and again.
My only complaint with this list is there's too many racing type games. I enjoy them but not sure if I'd want five of them occupying a N64 Classic.
Edit: I see it's not a list of your wants but just potential games that could be included.

Do they do licensed games like GoldenEye, Rogue Squadron and Turok in these? I'd think that would add significantly to the cost. If licensing wasn't an issue, I'd want all of the licensed wrestling games, Blast Corps, Bomberman 64 and just for the laughs, Superman 64.

They've had some licensed games. I don't think they'd get Goldeneye though as it's a Rare game which is now owned by Microsoft. Unless they pull off some sort of deal which is doubtful. I also wouldn't count on something like Rogue Squadron as we didn't get any of the Super Star Wars games on the SNES Classic.

Don't forget Doom 64. Had a blast playing that. Only downfall is because of limited memory of the cartridge some of the monsters were cut out.

But, almost all these games have aged terribly and don't hold up nearly as well as the SNES games do.

I think the games themselves are fine in a lot of cases it's the graphics that hamper things. What was thought of as 3D graphics then just look clunky polygon messes now. Whereas with the older consoles it's easier to take them for what they were as most weren't going for ultra realistic graphics and the overall animation for 8 Bit and 16 Bit games tends to hold up better.

Re: The inevitable SNES Classic is coming (inc. Starfox 2!; 21 games, 9/29/17, $80)
I suppose that's true in some instances. Still though I think the system gets somewhat of a bad reputation. There are still some good games for it just that a lot of things were in their infancy with it. Same can be said about the original PlayStation. I think a lot of the Nintendo games were very good like I said earlier and that they stack up against any of the classics from NES and SNES in my opinion.
Some other games I'd love to see on a N64 Classic but wouldn't happen are any of the THQ wresting games (namely WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF WrestleMania 2000, or WWF No Mercy). Unfortunately those are all filled with various rights issues that would hold them up from being put on something like a hypothetical N64 Classic.
Another thing I've thought about is Nintendo is focusing on home console classic editions, why not handheld as well? Do a Gameboy/Gameboy Color or maybe a Gameboy Advance Classic. They could probably even rig it up so it could be used as a handheld or as something that can be played on your tv if they included an HDMI output.

It's a lot more than just the graphics - it's the mostly terrible frame-rates, it's the mostly horrible cameras, and movement of the 3rd person cameras, it's the developers still figuring out how to make engaging games in 3-dimentions that are more than just tech-demos. All these things (and more) make these games a chore to play now.

The controller issue is a thing though. It's not that they wouldn't be able to replicate the controller (hopefully improving on the disintegrating stick), it's that even if you found an N64 classic to buy, you'd never find an extra controller except on eBay.
I would love a GBA classic, though I think with portable it's not as necessary. If you have the hardware and software, they should still work fine without any problems like compatibility with modern tvs. I wouldn't really be interested in a Gameboy classic, especially if it was missing Tetris. Though give me a Lynx classic or a turbographx express classic any day.

Ogre Battle 64 has to be on the possible 64 mini. Best game on the 64. Absolutely loved it.
