The Magnavox Odyssey.
The Magnavox Odyssey was, of course, the very first commercial home video game console ever made when it was released in 1972.
Did anyone here actually have a Magnavox Odyssey, or know anyone that did? If so, what were people's reactions to it and what was it like actually playing any of the games? Thanks to anyone that replies.

I had an Odyssey2 when I was a kid, and oddly enough, so did my wife! Her dad worked for Magnavox and brought home prototypes for them to try. I really don't recall the games for it, just that it had a keyboard.

I have one; won it off eBay sometime between 2002-2004. It doesn't have any of the hookups or controllers (but it does have one game), so I don't know if it works, but I have one.

We had an Odyssey˛ with Speedway/Spin-Out/Crypto-Logic, Bowling/Basketball, Armoured Encounter/Sub Chase, Alpine Skiing, and Invaders from Hyperspace. My cousin had K.C. Munchkin! which had the option of designing your own "Pac-Man" maze which was a lot of fun.

The Odyssey 2 came out around 1980 and was light years ahead of the original Odyssey that came out in 1972. I never got an Odyssey 2 but I did find an original Odyssey at Goodwill a couple years ago and bought it. It didn't come with any of the overlays and I haven't even tried hooking it up, so maybe it's a waste for me to have it. The most graphics it can do are white squares moving around the screen, so the overlays were needed for any sort of playfield.

Didn't have the Odyssey, but had the Odyssey 2. That video doesn't include any of the Master Strategy games??? I loved Quest for the Rings and even had a copy of KC Munchkin (which was light years better than the abysmal Pac-Man that showed up on the 2600).

Like others, my family had the Odyssey˛ when I was a kid. I remember K.C. Munchkin!, Baseball, and PickAxe Pete
Archive.org lets you play Odyssey˛ games in your web browser:

Emulating the original Odyssey is harder since a lot of the games relied on physical accessories that came with the console (overlays, dice, cards, etc) to play them.
The best emulator out there is the OdyEmu, which only implements overlays for two of the games, and has no other accessories implemented.
