Guys, this game is terrible. Consider yourselves lucky if you didn't get one.

People buy bad movies that they know are bad all the time. Why can't they buy a bad videogame?

I just think that if something sells out in under two minutes they could clearly sell more. I'm not talking a hundred thousand. I understand they are a extremely small company. The way this release was promoted as well as the nostalgia factor should have warranted a much larger number of copies.

Possibly. It's also possible that if this was a wide release available in every store, the would have sold less copies than they already have. Many people buy these releases specifically BECAUSE they are limited (to save or to flip), not because they actually want to play them.

Anybody who just wants to play the game can still download it.

FYI

Digital Copy is only in the PSN store for and is $14.99.

An XBox One version is supposedly planned for the future.

So how did this get an M rating for the original versions and only a T rating for the new versions? Did they cut some of the content?

Just standards changing over time, apparently. Night Trap is incredibly tame.

and here I thought we were going to have some half naked shots of the late Dana Plato.

I hope we'll get more of these cheesy FMV games. There's a few of them from the 90's off the Sega CD that I would love to re-visit.

Different times. Video games in general were viewed very differently back then. Throw in full motion video of girls (sometimes in pajamas!!) being (comically) hunted equaled an M rating. Same thing happened with PC games like Phantasmagoria. Tame by today's standards; controversial at launch.

Standard edition. I couldn't think of a single reason to buy the collectors edition.

This is one of the main games that suffered from the witch hunt that was going on with video games and the ratings system at that time. Check this article out.

The ratings system was used by the game industry to get the US Government off their backs. Night Trap being one of the major "offenders" along with Mortal Kombat was going to get the M Rating. Check out ESRB on wikipedia for a good write up on all of it.

Even when it was released I thought Night Trap was quite Tame compared to what I was expecting. Then again I grew up watching a lot of R rated movies! As a teen I knew politicians were using Mortal Kombat and Night Trap as stepping stones to build their political careers on. Pretty Sad.

Re: Night Trap gets re-release, complete with physical edition

So I played this for the first time last night. This game is really all about timing huh? If you don't hit the trap button at a certain point in the scene, the burglars keep moving and then overrun the house. Plus, there is a lot of repetition with the scenes. You can't even really pay too much attention to the scripted scenes either.

Having just done this I need to recant this statement. The game sucks. Sorry.

Agree to disagree. I'm having a lot of fun playing this again. Maybe it's just the memories but I've always loved it and still do.

And DJariya you can just mash the trap button.

To answer my own question, I really liked Late Shift. Available on Xbox One and PS4. It's like watching an indie movie with choose your own adventure style prompts.
