I don't think I ever finished the first stage of Sewer Shark but the game sucked so it's not fresh in my memory. Night Trap was taken off the shelf right before I got my Sega CD so I never played it.

I'm going to preorder one when it comes out. The game isn't good and say what you will about it, but it is one of the most significant games of its time of release and is a major part of the game industry since it was supposed to be the start of FMV being the wave of the future.

The grainy full motion video was barely watchable back in the Sega CD day.

I imagine they're going back to the original source video for better quality.

Night Trap was one of the games originally made for the cancelled Hasbro Control-Vision console, which used VHS tapes. So the video was originally intended to be at least VHS quality.

Re: Night Trap gets re-release, complete with physical edition

I remember playing Night Trap & Double Switch on Sega cd when they came out. The nostalgia factor is high with this one, but I think the idea of seeing it again will end up being better than actually playing them again.

Wow, I'd heard of games that played along with a VHS tape, but not the interactive ones like that.

Bump!

Today's the day. Goes live in 5 minutes. Another batch will go live this evening if you miss out on the first one. Demand is high for this LRG stuff...

You can always try for the second batch.

I managed to snag the CE. I'm... not sure why.

So how exactly does this work and when do they typically do it? The stupid game sold out in 2 f'n minutes. Course everyone on Cheapassgamer is bragging they bough two so that makes sense why it sold out so quick. Why would anyone even try to get something from this site?

Re: Night Trap gets re-release, complete with physical edition

I was torn between which version to get... I only have an XBox 360 and PS3, so getting one for the PS4 would've meant needing to buy a PS4.

I opted to get the PC version (includes Steam code). They're still available (51% inventory remaining as I post this)

Nice!

I doubt that I'll try for the CE, even though it's tempting... I think I'd rather try to snag the LP soundtrack instead at the next window.

Because there's nowhere else to get physical copies of most of these games.

At least with last week's blink-and-oh-it's-already-sold-out release of Wonder Boy, you could've imported an English-friendly copy from Play Asia as a fallback.

I've had great luck with the things I've picked up from LRG*, like the Shantae games and Wonder Boy, but you really do have to be perched in front of a computer beforehand, reload obsessively, and 'Add to Cart' / checkout the instant the countdown is over. It helps to be logged into PayPal or be able to quickly log into Amazon Payments as well.

(* The Skullgirls clusterfuck excepted, which is really on Lab Zero.)

Batch #1 is always at 10 AM Eastern and Batch #2 is at 6 PM. The first batch is larger and has a limit of 2 per person, and the second batch is smaller with a limit of 1 per customer.

They post in advance what they'll be selling on any given Friday. Sometimes they announce it months in advance, sometimes just a week before. But, as far as I can tell, it always goes on sale Fridays.
They do two batches. One at 10am EST, and one at 6pm EST.

Best bet to "beat the rush" is:
- Figure out which version/edition you want in advance, and bookmark the page
- Create and log into your LRG account. Make sure all your info is available in your account (address, etc.)
- Log into your PayPal account ~5 minutes in advance
- at ~10 seconds prior to launch, start refreshing the page.
- As soon as the page loads showing quantities, add one, go to your cart and "wait in line." which is usually about 5 to 30 seconds.
- During checkout, you can pick PayPal so you don't have to fumble with credit card info
- You WILL need to re-enter your phone number. Some people copy and paste it in advance.
- Hope you finalize checkout before quantities are gone. Unfortunately, due to the way 99.9% of online stores work, it's not good enough to have it in your cart. The quantity is NOT deducted from inventory until a confirmed sale is made.

Why would anyone even try to get something from this site?
For many... it's like the Criterion Collection of games. It's about spine numbers. But unlike CC, LRG is only licensed to make X number of copies of any game. Once they're gone, they're gone for good.

For others (like me) it's about getting physical PS4 copies of certain games, for either collecting or otherwise. I personally prefer not to buy digital on PS4 right now (not worth explaining, but it has to do with not being able to switch my PSN account between regions)

That LP is a 7" and only has one song. For $20. Fuck that noise (but good luck!)

This is going to sound strange, but... Night Trap is one of my favorite games. It took a lot of self-control to not go for the mega-bundle. So if I end up with "only" the PC version and LP or CE, I'll consider it money saved.

Re: Night Trap gets re-release, complete with physical edition

The second batches on LR releases are always easier. There are gonna be a wave on cancellations coming as well (note: don't do multiple orders to the same address).

I was luckily able to get Night Trap and The Bunker. Woo hoo!

^ Is The Bunker supposed to be any good? I saw that on there, but haven't seen much about it.

Re: Night Trap gets re-release, complete with physical edition

I loved the FMV games. Sewer Shark, Time Gal, Road Avenger, hell I even loved the Make MY Video Series in particular the Marky Mark one. I would totally buy a physical copy of Night Trap or any of them. I'm pissed I missed out on this.

On a side note, have any of you played Late Shift on the PS4? I purchased it and played through it once. I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. Super cheesy but fun.

If you don't mind the PC version of NIGHT TRAP, they still have plenty left. (34% as of this post)

Much like Night Trap, it's not much of a game as much as its an interactive demo. That being said it's got a pretty cool narrative and is fun as an experience.

Try this afternoon for the second round of releases. Most of the guys from CAG, Nintendo Age & YouTube buy in the morning. It's always easier during the afternoon release. Like it's mentioned above, log in first and then sit on the listing while the countdown occurs. Refresh at the 01 second mark and you should be fine.
