Resident Evil 7

Guess this will be the official game thread.

Anyone play that teaser that came out today for PS Plus members?

I thought it was good, and playing this with VR would be nerve racking. Can't wait!

Re: Resident Evil 7

Yeah I played the demo, thing is it didn't feel like a Resident Evil game. Kind of got creep out on the end.

Re: Resident Evil 7

It really looks like they picked up what Konami chose not to do with PT. I still prefer the old school game play of the first few games but it's not an action game so I'll play it.

Re: Resident Evil 7

The demo was very encouraging. Apparently there are multiple endings but I've only found one thus far. I really like the mechanic of:

Spoiler:
When you watch the video tape it isn't just a static cutscene, but a playable sequence!

I know there's folks saying that it "isn't Resident Evil" but what IS "Resident Evil"? Prior games have varied considerably in terms of playstyle and quality.

Re: Resident Evil 7

I've found two endings. Going upstairs to an attic and answering a phone, then you get knocked out. And the first one, just trying to leave out the back door after you pick up the key from the hidden area behind the wall.

I take it the last one is going down the ladder in that hidden space, but I thought fuck no and tried the backdoor.

Re: Resident Evil 7

By the way, based on the technology shown and the fact that nobody is talking about a global apocalypse, it seems this takes place during the same timeframe as Resident Evil 0/1.

Re: Resident Evil 7

New details about Resident Evil 7 have surfaced, thanks to a premature listing by the ESRB.

The listing has since been removed, but not before Gematsu pulled the full description, which details the game's main character, Ethan, who's described as "a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion."

The ESRB's summary also reaffirms that Resident Evil 7 will be played in first-person, through which players will "explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures."

Additionally, the listing notes that Resident Evil 7 will feature cutscenes that contain intense violence and gore, including instances in which "a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw, a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel [and] a character impaled through the face with a shovel." Portions of the game will also feature "mutilated corpses" that have their insides exposed, as well as dialogue that contains strong language.

IGN reached out to the ESRB about the removed listing and received the following statement:

"ESRB has removed Resident Evil 7 rating information from the ESRB website. The rating is accurate and was posted as part of our regular process for announcing ratings after they have been assigned. Capcom requested the rating information be removed, and we're working with them to determine a new posting date."

A Capcom representative told IGN that "We will have more news on Resident Evil 7 soon," but had no additional comment.

Re: Resident Evil 7

When Resident Evil 7 releases in January, a Collector's Edition will be available that includes a dummy finger USB drive, as well as a replica of the Baker mansion.

This GameStop-exclusive bundle is priced at $180. In addition to the game itself, the Collector's Edition includes the aforementioned Baker mansion replica, which stands 8-inches tall, and also serves as music box that has LED effects and plays a sample of Aunt Rhody.

The package also includes an exclusive metal case, as well as a lithograph of the Baker family, a creepy note from a resident of the mansion, and a VHS tape box to hold the dummy finger.

Re: Resident Evil 7

Looks like the original demo has been updated to add another section. This time the whole thing is playable in VR. Anyone try it out yet?

I think I'm too much of a pussy to play this in VR!

Re: Resident Evil 7

Just based off of what I see. Could be a good game.

As an RE fan... I'm not sure I like where it is headed in terms of whatever it goes into as a narrative in scheme of things. Saying that... the franchise kept getting bigger and bigger in concept that horror wasn't a main factor anymore. And this one... looks like it's all that. Just different from the originals in tones and environments. More... fucked up. I'm game for whatever though. Just a good horror game would be nice.

I'm in the same boat. I like the return to horror and enjoyed the earlier demos (haven't played the new one yet), but so far this feels more like a brand new horror IP than a part of the series as a whole. Tonally this reminds me a lot of The Evil Within, a game I never completed... I just lost interest in the story and gameplay part way through despite some promising elements early on.

Re: Resident Evil 7

Takes place 4 years after RE6 and supposedly will make reference to RE elements. But... it seems like this thing for all intents and purposes is an original game... I don't see how it can even be involved w/ the general lore of RE. Seems like it's an unrelated story on the side created as a fallout of what the Umbrellas fallout has done. Same world, different event.. that type of thing.

Re: Resident Evil 7

Man, the final version of this demo is kicking my ass.

Spoiler:
I can't get past the monster in the basement no matter what. I read I'm supposed to avoid him and not get hit, but I just get owned and pinned down in a corner and killed no matter what. Even swinging the body bags doesn't help. It's made worse by the fact you have to play through the whole thing every time just to get back to that point.

I hope I'm not as lousy with the real game!
