Re: Resident Evil 7
Ok so the problem simply was....the demo was buggy for me like they mentioned before you play - the door leading to the bathroom would never open for me and the fuse would never show up (even after dying or before watching the tape).
I made it all the way down to the basement and got killed by the monster (right as I got the last key too).
I have to say I love the visuals and style but I'm not too big onthe game-play. If they keep this method of "go find the items before you can proceed" (and it looks like they will) I'll probably be out but since it looks so damn good....I might just buy it.

The Verdict
Resident Evil 7 grounds itself in elements that made the original great while still indulging in a risky new shift in style that both helps and hurts the beloved formula in equal measure. But it’s also the closest a numbered sequel has come to recapturing Resident Evil’s slow, but thrilling and atmospheric adventure game roots in a while — a welcome return that I truly hope to see more of in the future.

Damn, 10/10 from Destructoid, 9/10 from Polygon, and 4/5 from Giant Bomb. That's some pretty high praise. I wish Best Buy still did their $10 reward certificate for some preorders. This game would have been perfect for that.

Some people got waaaaay more than 10 hours of play out of the demo. If this has as many secrets and puzzles then it could really have a lot to offer for people who like investigating that stuff.

These YouTube videos crack me up most of the time. Why even play the game? Kids these days.

I'll wait for this to drop in price, but it sounds really good. It's actually a selling point to me that it's relatively short compared to some other games.

Arby's did an old school nod to Resident Evil on their facebook page today:
Not surprising considering their normal campaign of geekiness, but a nice ode.

I really want this now, but know I won't play it for a long long time. I guess I'll wait. I did just get Evil Within so at least have that to tide me over. Really do want to finish BioShock 1 though...

It is funny how some reviews say this didn't even need to be a resident evil game. It had limited tied and could have probably stood on its own.

Probably wanted to stamp the name on it. Original IPs are having a hard time selling these days.
On another note, it does look like the game can be sped through in just a few hours. Not that I would but there is an achievement for finishing it in under 4 hours. Looks like I won't need a month to play it.

Re: Resident Evil 7
Spent a little over an hour in this in VR last night and thought I'd post some impressions for those interested. Just in terms of presentation and quality, I'd put this on the same level as the Star Wars Battlefront VR Mission. It's extremely well done and looks really good.
I was a little concerned about motion sickness. I've generally done pretty well with VR so far, though I've started to feel a bit nauseous a handful of times. Typically, it seems like as long as my body in the game is somewhat doing what my body in real life is, I'm fine. So sitting in a cockpit or car or standing and looking around, I have no problems. I was worried that moving around as if I was walking in RE7 would possibly be an issue, but the 30-degree turns they implemented are a huge help. For those unfamiliar with how they handled the controls, you basically use the left stick to move forward/back and strafe, with the direction of forward/back being defined by where you're looking. The right stick turns you in 30 degree increments, rather than providing smooth rotation. When I first started playing, I felt a little weird, but settling in and using the right stick a fair amount eliminated that entirely.
As to the actual game, it's great. VR adds a ton to it. I played for about 70 minutes and I'm guessing the ground I covered would've only taken half to a third of that had I been playing on a traditional screen. At least for me, the immersion of the experience really makes me way more cautious. Without giving anything away, there were two spots where I saw something up ahead that I probably would've run towards to check out and confront in a traditional gaming experience, but instead crouched and slowly crept up on in VR. It also made me really explore the areas to make sure I wasn't missing anything that might be of use later. The atmosphere at the beginning is great and very reminiscent of being plopped down in the house from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The only (very, very) minor gripes thus far are that in spots, the graphics are noticeably less than perfect and the crouching had some wonky spots for me. On the former, the immersion definitely makes up for it and they're certainly not terrible, but I hit several spots where I did notice things not looking particularly great. I also had multiple spots where things looked jagged at first and it took a second or two for the textures to pop in and smooth things out. I'm playing on a Pro, so it may be more of an issue on a standard PS4. As for the crouching, I spent a lot of time sneaking around in a crouch and there were a handful of times where the position of my head was just off the ground, giving the visual sensation of my body passing through the ground.
Anyway, if I can get 2-3 experiences like this per year on VR to sprinkle in with my traditional gaming, I'll be extremely pleased with the VR purchase.

^^ Thanks a ton for that review. I bought this solely based on the VR option. I'm glad it doesn't disappoint.
