I will probably enjoy it but those are not promising reviews.

Hmm... do these games generally drop in price quickly? I think I'm going to wait based on those ho-hum reviews.

I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting it for $29.99 before too much longer, although I wouldn't bank on that before the year's out. Being so heavily Christmas themed might cause the price to really plummet after the holidays -- faster than the other games in the series have.
Just like so many of the schlocky horror movies I love get dismal reviews, I can't say I'm scared off by the less-than-sterling reception to DR4 so far (and they're really not even that bad, by and large). Some people say "Saints Row with zombies" as a negative, but that honestly sounds like a hell of a lot of fun to me. I also really dug DR3 up until the very final moments, so I guess I'm the target audience for what DR has mutated into over the past few years.

I know it probably sounds stupid, but hearing about the Christmas setting won me over. I could use a fun, holiday themed gorefest this month. It helps that Best Buy's B2G1F sale is this week. I've been waiting on a sale on Eve Valkyrie since the PSVR came out, so pairing that up with this and The Last Guardian works for me.

So I just bit on this with Eve Valkyrie and Infinite Warfare (dammit!).

Me too. Not sure why IGN's review was only 8.1. Still a good score, but if you read the entire review I would have guessed 9+ by the time I got to the end. Looking forward to this tomorrow. No timer is an added bonus.

I would guess the glitches he encountered along with the Co-op MP issues brought it down, at least by watching the video.

So I played about 3 hours of it. Starts if very slow. After the slow part, you get to one of the main areas. Will bring back some memories about playing the 1st one. Crafting is the same, blueprints are the same. So far, all the craft able weapons are the same. Not much originality. The zombies seem harder as there are more of them and they tend to swarm more quickly. Overall, nothing groundbreaking, but if you liked the others, you will like this one.

It's not really a spoiler unless you intentionally avoided the trailers.

I've only played for one day -- which...errrr, puts me halfway through the campaign already -- and I'm having such a ridiculously great time. I don't know what it is about first-week-of-December off-the rails open world games, but Just Cause 3 made my holiday season last year, and DR4 is hitting some of those same notes for me this year.

re: Dead Rising 4 - XB1/PC now; PS4 on 12/5/17
I finished the campaign yesterday, and although I dug Dead Rising 4 overall, I can definitely understand a lot of the criticism.
It might be the single easiest game I've played this generation. I made it through the entire campaign without dying once. There aren't really side quests, just small events that randomly popup and a metric ton of collectibles. I love the variety of ridiculous combo weapons and vehicles, but the number of things to play with seems like it belongs to a much bigger game. I either never saw or barely touched the majority of that stuff, even after making it a point to seek out as many blueprints as I could. Collecting wound up feeling kind of tedious when I wasn't just exploring an area organically, and I'm frequently a completist about that sort of thing in open world games. The buried blueprints are cheap since there's no real way to find them unless you always have camera mode enabled, pony up for a map, or follow a guide online. I was surprised that the mall wasn't really central to the game, but I guess that's just misplaced expectations. It's hard to feel compelled to seek out blueprints when you can just buy combo weapons from a vendor (although I wound up not doing that, not even for the preorder bonuses you can only get that way) or find them in safe rooms. Leveling up shelters is kind of lame since you just have to run around hoping for events to spawn. The evolved zombies are more annoying than challenging. The investigation mechanic isn't terrible but could get kind of tedious, especially when there'd be a few of them in quick succession.
...yet I still really liked it. Dynasty Warriors plus zombies plus batshit insane weapons equals my kind of thing, I guess!

Finished up Deus Ex, so I started this yesterday. I swear it's the buggiest game I've played since Assassin's Creed 3. I've lost progress due to freezes at least half a dozen times and I've now hit what appears to be a known glitch that prevents any further progress without restarting the case from scratch. I'll probably push through the first case as quickly as possible to see if I hit the glitch again, but if I do, I'm probably going to call it quits.

There weren't any showstopping glitches, but when I went back to replay a few chapters, the dialogue stopped playing in cutscenes. Sound effects and music would still play, and I'd get dialogue in gameplay, but many/all characters (depending on the scene) would be dead silent in cutscenes.

I just got Best Buy to refund $8 off my 12/18 $32 purchase of the game + zombie holiday ornament to match their 12/26 Deal of the Day price with GCU. Even if it is a little glitchy (which I have yet to encounter) , that's the video game deal of the year for me.

Ended up picking this up on a whim for its reduced $30 price point. It's probably my favorite blind buy of the past couple of years, It's a total blast and IMHO a late action game of the year contender. Between the super fun holiday motif, the reduced difficulty, a sense of humor that is actually funny and not obnoxious and the elimination of the time mechanic it's a real treat.

re: Dead Rising 4 - XB1/PC now; PS4 on 12/5/17
Just started playing this and am about halfway through. Overall I find it to be a step down from the previous games. I know a lot of people hated the timer but I didn't because it added a sense of urgency and planning to what you could or could not do. I sorely miss it. The vehicles aren't as neat and the weapons aren't as neat either. Encounters with maniacs or lame and show no cut scenes anymore and side events just randomly pop up and aren't done very well. This feels like a Dead Rising game that would have come out for the Wii or a more mainstream system that would be made easier to appeal to the masses.
