Titanfall 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

re: Titanfall 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
I put a little time into it over the weekend. Overall, it's more of the same. I like the addition of the grappling hook, it makes the movement feel a little more fluid and gives you the opportunity to reach some places you wouldn't normally be able to. It also helps you retreat easier and getting on top of titans faster. One of my biggest complaints was map variety. This is an area this game is always going to struggle in since they have to take into account titan movement. But the maps feel so generic and boring. It will be interesting to see how this game does in October. I know the first game was well received, and then fell off the radar a month later. Maybe coming out on the PS4 will help a little bit this time and we don't know much about the single player campaign, but I don't see enough improvements to make this a day one purchase.

Wow, I'm surprised it's been dead quite around here for this one. Especially for PS4 owners that never got a chance to play the first one. They had the alpha again this weekend, did anyone play it?

I did. It was more Titanfall. Nothing too special there. It'll probably flop right out of the gate considering the other shooters launching within 2 weeks of it.

When the first one came out, there wasn't much competition on next-gen consoles, but now, it's getting lost in the ocean of CoD/Destiny/Overwatch/etc.

As much as I dug the multiplayer in the first one, I'm more interested in the campaign in the sequel, so I haven't poked my head in. The intensely negative early reception didn't do much to draw in my interest for the multiplayer test either. Was the second round better received?

I never played the original, but I had a good time with tech test. I'm still thinking about picking it up but coming a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before COD is mental. I would buy it day one if they released it in March 2017 after I've had my time with Battlefield 1.

I still wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed to February or March, just so it doesn't get lost in the holiday shuffle of shooters. That would also give them some time to work on the feedback given from the alpha.

Reviews are up on most of the major sites now. It's been doing really well, averaging somewhere around a 9 on the usual suspects.

Something tells me even the very good reviews for this game won't help it get overshadowed by Battlefield and COD.
I was a big fan and caught up in the hype of the first game, but there's so much else out that this isn't even on my radar.

I still don't understand why EA released this and Battlefield a week apart from each other (and COD coming out next week). I realize that they are different games, but how many FPS's does the average gamer need at once?

Yeah, reviews seem rather positive, so that's good.
But like I mentioned earlier; what's going to keep the online community of this stay healthy while being awash in an sea of Battlefield/CoD/Destiny/Overwatch/etc?

But for $38 + tax at Best Buy with preorder, I'm considering it.

Why isn't Titanfall 2 trial available on the Xbox One via EA Access yet? Seems like it should be less than four days before release. It's still an EA game, right?

^^ I was wondering this too... that said, I'll probably pick up TF2 when it is on EA Access for good.

from their own faq on ea access
Will members be able to play every EA game early?
EA Access members get to try upcoming EA releases first.
I guess they really did not answer the question, but I would think most would agree that they are saying every EA game...so while the service offers WAY more than early access...I would think some would find this upsetting.

To be fair though, when the service was announced, they went out of their way to note that Titanfall was specifically excluded from the service (though they did eventually add it to the Vault and they made no mention of a sequel).

Yes, but that was also when it was an XB1 exclusive and multiplayer only. They should at least throw something up there, even if it's just the first level or two of the single player campaign.

As I recall, Respawn has more control over the specifics, even if it's still an "EA game," which might be why Titanfall 1 wasn't on EA Access for quite a long time (about 1 year after EA Access started, which was about 4 months after Titanfall came out).
My guess is that Respawn wants to see a significant delay before Titanfall 2 is added.

BF1 is excellent. If this exceeds that, I'll have no problem spending $60.
