Re: New to Console Gaming: Advice Needed

I got an XBox One for Christmas and this is the best accessory I got: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLLFJE0 - It comes with rechargeable batteries and charges them right in the controller when you're not playing. I like it a little more than the Energizer one because it's basically completely flat and won't fall over. I had one like the Energizer one for the 360 but it tipped once in a while (this may be fixed in the new version, I don't know.)

Out of all the games I have, nothing beats Destiny or Rise of the Tomb Raider. If you were into PC gaming (as I was) these two feel a LOT like PC gaming, so they're an easy transition, but they're also pretty perfect when it comes to using a controller.

ALSO: I only got a 500GB hard drive and still haven't even half filled it up even though I have about 15 HUGE games on there, not counting a ton of the arcade games. You can definitely wait on the hard drive for now.

Finally, bookmark this page or create an RSS feed from it. Every week it tells you which XBox ONE games are on hefty sales and/or FREE for the month: http://majornelson.com/ Personally, I try to get everything digitally if the price is right. The ONE requires you to load the whole game from the disk onto the hard drive anyway, so you might as well make it a seamless experience and ditch the disk.

EDIT: I keep thinking of things. OK, if you're getting a second controller, I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Speci.../dp/B016QRTO48 . It's the same as the regular, but it has rubber gripping added and I prefer it.

Also, if you're into music, you may already have a nice headset that will work. The new controllers for the ONE accept the standard 3.5mm plug. I discovered my awesome BOSE headphones worked great with the ONE (they have a mic in the cord). So you don't need to think about getting a "gamer's headset" if you don't want. About any headphones can become a gamer's headset.

While I completely agree with the notion of waiting on an external drive until you need it or see one on sale, this makes me curious what you have installed. If I recall, with nothing installed you have a bit under 400 GB usable on the XBox One. Of the games I have installed -

Gears of War Ultimate: 44.4 GB
Destiny: 35.5 GB
Forza Horizon 2: 42.5 GB
Halo: The Master Chief Collection: 70.8 GB
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 22.3 GB

This is already more then half the usable space Some other installed games and their respective drive space usage that I have -

Sunset Overdrive: 26.2 GB
Killer Instinct: 27.4 GB
NBA 2K16: 45 GB
Ori and the Blind Forest: 7.5 GB
Star Wars Battlefront: 19.5 GB

Rare Replay I think is around 50 GB with all the games installed too, although you don't have to install all the 360 BC games.

I don't know what you consider "huge" titles, but just loading up on XBox One exclusives and a few other major titles runs through that space pretty quickly! For me, I lasted about 8-10 months before I happened to buy an external drive on sale since I'd rather not reinstall something like Halo, Destiny, or Rare Replay.

I have one of these as well. It works and you get pretty lights while the controllers are sitting in it

Re: New to Console Gaming: Advice Needed

I realize everyone doesn't, but it seems as if many that would frequent a site such as this have an external drive lying around. That is easy enough to add to the Xbox one.

Absolutely second the need for Best Buy GCU. It is literally a no brainer.

Lastly don't forget with your xbox live and psn memberships you get several free games every month (usually a little better games on PS4)

I also join the crew in recommending EA Access.
You are in luck, currently $12 over at Amazon

Re: New to Console Gaming: Advice Needed

This one popped up for $13 last night. Seems to have better reviews than the Energizer.

Unfortunately it's no longer $13 either.

I ordered it as it was the one I'd been eyeballing already. I have the PS4 one by the same company and it works great.

Re: New to Console Gaming: Advice Needed

Watch out...we got a badass over here!!

I have a grand total of 75 achievement points!

My purchase off of Amazon was flawless...went fine. Everything was there.

I got the Elite 1TB unit and I love the Elite controller. Extra 2TB HD so I have plenty of space.

I backed off a few things and ended up with a purchase of about $1000.

I got a bunch of games....and and extra controller, in case of breakdowns or company.

First off I really like the plug-n-play. Works great. I'm close enough to my 60" LG to have my elite controller plugged in when needed.

Games..where do I start! I feel like a kid again!

1. Forza 6 = FEAR MY FORD ESCORT! I love this game! First place...gogogogo! I can't get enough of this racing game. Love it!

2. Wolfenstein: Looks good...but wow...having issues getting past the initial stuff....I'll get there...just tougher than I thought!

3. FIFA16: Lets just say....the 30 minutes I played...were ALL on my half of the field...heh I'll learn!

4. Far Cry 4: Getting there... still on the initial stealth type mission...having issues with all of the buttons...wowza.

5. GTA5: Well lets just say I'm a better cop than I am a bad guy Doing ok..but having issues...I'll just leave it at that...I'll get there....

6. Tomb Raider: Definitive: LOVE THIS GAME! I spent like 6 hours on it last night and am getting there...slowly but surely. Shooting deer? No problem...DOH!

I was so out of touch when it comes Xbox and what it can do.

My 6 year old Marantz receiver has only 2 HDMI inputs...ROKU and DVD Player...turns out I can use the Xbox for both of them. Never realized that! May have to upgrade it soon but for now its doing ok.

I don't have any type of cable box...I'm cable tv free...I strictly stream.

VUDU: 500+ movies owned
Netflix: sub paid
Amazon: sub paid

So...I find out I can stream all of these on my Xbox...nice...

Either way I'm super happy with the Xbox purchase. I'll be having a TON of fun with some of the games....others I know I will struggle on.

I'm on my 14 day XBox Live GOLD free sub but will probably buy the year sub for $60.

If anyone wants a real newbie on their list feel free to add me...but I warn you...I have ZERO Xbox online experience....heh. I do have a headset though Any good suggestions for good Multiplayer games...I'm listening. Just afraid to jump right into them.

Xbox ID: unxpctd1107

Thanks for all of the assistance and ideas.

I'm going to get hooked up with the Best Buy Gamer Rewards Program.

Thanks all!

Mark

Good to hear you are enjoying it. Do yourself a favor and get an HDMI splitter. I have this one and really like it mainly because it automatically switches to whatever I have on at the time.

Did that console come with Kinect? I don't use it for games at all but the voice commands are pretty cool.

yeah i like the voice as well. makes it easier to turn off and navigate stuff as the OS or whatever XBOX is using is simply terrible. when did they add voice read outs? it is so far behind when i scroll its ridiculous...

My 500gb HDD filled up fast, in part because it came with Sunset Overdrive and RYSE codes, and Halo:MCC was one of my first purchases. Thankfully adding an external USB drive takes like 2 minutes.

Yeah, I got this one when I added my X1 and now I can switch back and forth between that and the 360. It works automatically, or I can use the remote if both are on.
