Tips for new players:
  • Unless you're into spending money, don't ever buy data packs (except the first Chromium--it guarantees you a character; you buy it with crystals).
  • Once in a great while you'll get a character from a daily pack, or shards, but 45% of the characters you get will be from the various stores in the game. You can only see 1-2 when you start (Cantina and Squad Arena), but eventually you'll see another 3 or so, and they'll keep you busy grabbing character shards. The other 45% of the characters you get will be from doing hard battles...one shard at a time.
  • At the start, you really just need to keep plugging away at what you know to do. The game is great at opening up new areas when you're about ready for them. Don't even be that concerned about which characters are the "right ones." For instance, you'll probably continue to use Clone Wars Chewbacca for a while...but you'll likely abandon him by level 60 or so in favor of other characters.
  • I do highly recommend doing nothing in the Cantina except getting GS shards (Battle 1-A). Just do it over and over again until he's 7*. I camped there until he was done and then started doing more cantina battles. You'll use him way into the end game. Do one Cantina refresh every day (100 crystals).
  • In the Squad Arena (PvP), ST Han and Leia are both great choices. Again, I'd just keep farming them until they were maxed, then move on.
  • Other than that, keep doing the Light and Dark side battles. (Refresh twice each day (50 crystals each)). Right now you can just try to get through the levels, but eventually you'll want each one three stars because you'll go back to them countless times to get specific character shards so you can get a character, or to get equipment parts to make them stronger. By the way, equipment (those green pluses) make a HUGE difference--more than anything!
  • Be sure to get through your Dailies every day. That maxes your growth.
  • It's a bit frustrating early on because you want to get a bunch of characters, but if you really focus on building a strong team, they'll open the game for you.
  • Don't hesitate to use ALL your energy every single day. And if you fight a battle a second time, use a SIM if you have it. I was so concerned early on with burning through my credits and SIMs that I hoarded them. No need to do that. They all refill the following day, and by using them you grow faster.
  • These are generally considered some of the best characters in each store, in order of general preference. If you're not sure who to get, get them in this order. But don't let the idea of getting the "best" characters rule your gameplay. It's fun to play with whoever you want and sometimes unique combinations do surprisingly well:

    Guild Shipments: Rey, Ewok Elder
Arena Shipments: ST Han, Princess Leia, Admiral Ackbar
Galactic War Shipments: Luminara, Captain Phasma, Teebo, Poggle the Lesser, IG-86 (Note: Luminara is best up to about level 75, then Phasma seems to shine more. Ultimately, you'll want both.)
Cantina Shipments: Qui-Gon Jinn, Daka, Fives, Ahsoka
Cantina Battles: Geonosian Soldier, Barriss, Count Dooku, Old Ben, Royal Guard, Jedi Consular, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian

They are all good choices, but I think it comes down to who you really need for your team. If you are looking for tanky damage dealer, Boba or Fives is best. If you need another healer, go for Daka. Personally, I prefer Boba due to his resurrection skill.

I'm not too sure about Poe, but I've heard that he is a weaker version of Chewie. Unless you are benefiting from the synergy he offers with other Force Awakens characters, you may want to hold off on upgrading him too far.

Nice! I should be able to reach my 8-pack in the next few days. Hopefully it'll be worth it.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Bought the 4 card Chromium pack. Got jack and shit... Kit Fisto shards that I can't use (don't have enough to activate), other non useful shards, and a 1* Genosian Soldier. Just like Marvel Puzzle Quest 10 packs all over again, right Pinata?

So, I think I may have to start updating my lesser tier heroes as the Light/Dark battles are ramping up in difficulty. Plus, I just opened up the Squad Arena and the first node of enemies is level 28. I only have 2 level 27s and a level 15.

My player level is 28 and my current roster is:
Clone Wars Chewie (3* / lvl 27 / gear 2)
Jedi Consular (2* / lvl 27 / gear 2)
Talia (3* / lvl 15 / gear 3)
Poe (3* / lvl 5 / gear 2)
Resistance Trooper (2* / lvl 5 / gear 2)

Like someone said here, Poe seems to be a weaker version of CW Chewie so hesitant to invest in him but I really don't have anyone else. My Chewie and JC are currently maxed in both level and gear level (in terms of the gear I have in inventory). I can invest more in Talia.

I have Clone Sergeant on my bench and was thinking about investing in him a bit since suppressive fire seems useful (removes % of enemies turn meters... this means I would get turns faster?).

Also have 2* FO Trooper, and 1* FO Tie Pilot too.

Appreciate the guidance from the resident Jedi Masters here.
Thanks

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Great. Can't wait to have the game piss in my face through an 8-pack.

I did just crack the top 500 in my squad arena. Hope I can maintain there or better for a while. Getting 15 Sidious shards every 2 days sounds pretty, pretty, pretty... pretty good.

Still can't do GW past 8 or 9 battles regularly.

I pulled Darth Maul out of an eight pack and he's easily the best of my heroes.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

My major holes right now is that my Light team has no significant AoE power and my Dark team has no significant healer. I need to fix those and keep marching down the "campaign" to sim drops.

So should I be putting all of my cantina currency into BF shards? I've also been spending all of my arena currency on shards for leveling Sideous.

That's what I'm doing. Plus Luminara from GW. I will farm the Luminara and BF Hard nodes as well every day before moving on the gear farming.

I did plow through Light Side 6 last night until the final match with Vader. So many Recon Stormtroopers just lobbing detonators before I can do anything. I really wanted to hit 6A-Hard for another Luminara farming opportunity. Guess I need to switch to Dark Side so I can unlock Barriss farming in 5-Hard.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

I've been borrowing your Luminaras left and right for squad challenges and she is awesome. My squad just can't keep it together sometimes. Gonna have to grind, I guess. May have to spend some of those auto sim credits because that's a lot of time to simply get to the level that I can attack and move on without getting wiped out. It's a fun game, but the true barrier to advancing isn't power-ups, it's the time it takes to earn all of the crafting materials.

Just started playing this yesterday. Seems pretty cool so far.

Reached Rank 18 and got my ally code... 184-532-279.

Feel free to add it to the list. I'll send requests to the people that are already in the master list.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

WOW, some of you guys are strong. I used Groucho as an ally in one of my fights and his character proceeded to wipe out the entire other team with the very first attack.

I only have 3 dark characters at the moment and I'm occasionally outnumbered doing the dark side battles, so having allies will definitely help.

Thanks for the adds everyone!

I didn't notice the messages until it was too late. I'm willing to try again tonight if there is enough people. Gotta grind for those Vader shards.

I'm getting really tired of farming for a single piece of gear just to keep being denied. Any way to change the odds? Don't sim? Flawless victory? Let it sit a period of time?

There really is no tricks. Some of that purple gear has a pretty terrible drop rate. I've had some battles runs where I spend an energy refresh, and not get anything.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

This game is pretty cool, but it's surprising to see how slow energy regens and how much grind there is to getting new characters. It almost seems like this game requires a person to spend money if they want to see any form of decent progression in a sane amount of time.

I feel the same way. I'm about to stop playing. I'm out of training droids, can't get anywhere in squad arena, hitting a wall in pvp, etc. I don't know how you guys managed to get so far and get the good heroes.
