Tips for new players:
  • Unless you're into spending money, don't ever buy data packs (except the first Chromium--it guarantees you a character; you buy it with crystals).
  • Once in a great while you'll get a character from a daily pack, or shards, but 45% of the characters you get will be from the various stores in the game. You can only see 1-2 when you start (Cantina and Squad Arena), but eventually you'll see another 3 or so, and they'll keep you busy grabbing character shards. The other 45% of the characters you get will be from doing hard battles...one shard at a time.
  • At the start, you really just need to keep plugging away at what you know to do. The game is great at opening up new areas when you're about ready for them. Don't even be that concerned about which characters are the "right ones." For instance, you'll probably continue to use Clone Wars Chewbacca for a while...but you'll likely abandon him by level 60 or so in favor of other characters.
  • I do highly recommend doing nothing in the Cantina except getting GS shards (Battle 1-A). Just do it over and over again until he's 7*. I camped there until he was done and then started doing more cantina battles. You'll use him way into the end game. Do one Cantina refresh every day (100 crystals).
  • In the Squad Arena (PvP), ST Han and Leia are both great choices. Again, I'd just keep farming them until they were maxed, then move on.
  • Other than that, keep doing the Light and Dark side battles. (Refresh twice each day (50 crystals each)). Right now you can just try to get through the levels, but eventually you'll want each one three stars because you'll go back to them countless times to get specific character shards so you can get a character, or to get equipment parts to make them stronger. By the way, equipment (those green pluses) make a HUGE difference--more than anything!
  • Be sure to get through your Dailies every day. That maxes your growth.
  • It's a bit frustrating early on because you want to get a bunch of characters, but if you really focus on building a strong team, they'll open the game for you.
  • Don't hesitate to use ALL your energy every single day. And if you fight a battle a second time, use a SIM if you have it. I was so concerned early on with burning through my credits and SIMs that I hoarded them. No need to do that. They all refill the following day, and by using them you grow faster.
  • These are generally considered some of the best characters in each store, in order of general preference. If you're not sure who to get, get them in this order. But don't let the idea of getting the "best" characters rule your gameplay. It's fun to play with whoever you want and sometimes unique combinations do surprisingly well:

    Guild Shipments: Rey, Ewok Elder
Arena Shipments: ST Han, Princess Leia, Admiral Ackbar
Galactic War Shipments: Luminara, Captain Phasma, Teebo, Poggle the Lesser, IG-86 (Note: Luminara is best up to about level 75, then Phasma seems to shine more. Ultimately, you'll want both.)
Cantina Shipments: Qui-Gon Jinn, Daka, Fives, Ahsoka
Cantina Battles: Geonosian Soldier, Barriss, Count Dooku, Old Ben, Royal Guard, Jedi Consular, Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian

I don't think there is a max. Due to max player level 60, you are limited to gear level 7 for most characters, and gear level 8 for a couple (Jedi Consular and Boba Fett).

Once they raise the max player level to 70, the gear level will go up as well.

Ah, I see. I haven't yet begun to parse the metagame. I'm just playing for me so far.

Do you mind updating the OP with our known DVDTalkers? I worry I'll accidentally delete one of us in the future.

Yup. We are already allies though so that is probably why. I'm Davlin Riggs in this game.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

So, my original thought was to get a wide cast of characters for several reasons: collection, Galactic War subs, and achievements for Vader shards. But now I'm thinking I should just focus on getting my bad asses up to 7*. Going with Luminara and Sidious for now.

Thoughts?

Those are the two strongest characters in the game right now, and they also happen to be the easiest to farm.

Luminara especially is worth your time. If you are finishing GW every day you can earn 1200 GW shipment points, which can get you 15 shards a day.

I haven't finished GW once. I don't have a wide enough cast to make it all the way through.

Not finding you by that ally code and you're not already in my list unless you spell "Sala Mander" with a bunch of Kanji.

So is there where the missing Dagger's have gone? I'm in, and should be up to 17 sometime today.

Once you hit level 18, you will get an Ally code.

If you share that code, we will all be able to get some D.

I have a bunch of iTunes cards that I wouldn't use other than on Tapped Out so I may drop some money on this game since it's fun so far.

Edit: From what I saw on Reddit people said the drops aren't worth it right now so I'd be better off just holding onto any shards I may buy until the next update.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

Probably your best best for crystals is using them for energy refreshes. I earn a little over 200 crystals a day, so I spend 100 on a Squad Cantina refresh, and 2x50 on regular energy refreshes per day.

I still like to spend some crystals from time to time, gambling on a Chromium, for the chance to get a cool character.

Re: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (iOS & Android)

I need some advice on completing GW. I read the guide on the forums and it makes sense (and I didn't realize it was an option) but I don't quite have a handle on when and who to sub. It kills me when I jump back in and the AI gets to immediately go again. Maybe I'll get there on my own in a day or two, but any other tips?

The Squad Arena. I am usually in the Top 50 to 100 on my server, and that can earn me 100 to 150 crystals a day. The rest I earn completing all the Daily Achievements.

I probably play around 3 or 4 times a day, maybe 15 minutes at a time.

Also, who should I focus on from the Cantina Table shipments? Daka, Boba, or Fives? Or keep upgrading Poe?

"Tactical" retreat is the best way to survive in GW. On the harder battles, you can retreat when you've killed an enemy, and when you return to the battle, all negative buffs that you may have will be gone.

The general trick on the forums is to put a bunch of low level guys in first to trigger all the enemies special skills, and then retreat and swap in your A-team. I've tried this method, but I don't really like it.
