Yeah, it's been out for more than 9 months. When I started it, I just couldn't get into it. Not so much the difficulty, but not being able to figure out exactly how to play, how it's system worked but my biggest barrier was mostly it's punishing load times.
Well, the load times have long since been patched, which makes such a difference, it cannot be overstated. Also, I figured out how to level up and grind, which made the game much more rewarding.
So now, like everyone else who gets over the initial hurdle, I'm completely obsessed with the game and can't stop playing.
Good thing there's no major releases soon, since I'm gonna be balls-deep in Bloodborne for a while.

The advice that helped me most was this: RUN to the first boss, avoiding everything along the way, not to fight him, but to get the "insight point" you get from just seeing him that is required to awake the "doll" at hunters dream from whom you can level up. Then grind, and level your ass up, learning the mechanics along the way. From there, it's all gravy. Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

Just finished Gravity Falls Legend Of The Gnome Gemulets. What a refreshing change of pace after a dozen ginormous open world titles in a row.

Still playing Rock Band 4 (XB1) sporadically.
Played about 25 hours so far of Gems of War (PS4) which is the Puzzle Quest sequel I always wanted.
Started Oxenfree (XB1) yesterday and am about an hour in.

I spent the past two weeks playing Bioshock Infinite and all of the DLC. That was a damn good game and the first DLC I can recall in recent memory worth recommending to anyone.

Just finished up Valiant Hearts. Cute little game, I really liked the "history lesson" aspects of it about World War 1. Pretty simple and easy game play, but the art and characters were enjoyable and the story was decent.
I think i'll start Deadpool with the movie coming up now.

Actual Game playing (XB1): Started episode 5 of Tales from the Borderlands last night, should be done in a week. Been fantastic so far. Started The Golf Club, pretty good, just have to learn the system. Outside of that, Level 42 in Gems of War and now in Act III in Gears of War UE.

Re: What are you playing? (January 2016)
Earlier in the month I finished up Shadow of Mordor (PS4). I quite enjoyed it, though I think I had my fill after logging about 40 hours of game play (I left a lot of the optional missions on the table). Similar mechanics to the Arkham and Assassin's Creed games made it feel comfortable. The story for the main quest ended up being rather disappointing, with a very underwhelming finale. But overall I'm glad I played it.
Last week I played all 5 chapters of Life is Strange (PS4). I really liked it. As someone who plays games for interactive storytelling, it's exciting to see designers actively push the genre forward as an art-form in that vein.
I started playing Dark Souls 2 (PS4), but after putting a few hours into it I'm really not sure. I hadn't played any of the Souls games before because many of the features sounded like things I wouldn't enjoy (needing to replay the same battles over and over, punishingly difficult timing-based combat, unavoidable PvP, lack of emphasis on story and characters, no in-game pausing, no in-game map, infrequent save points). Though there was a sale later last year of the complete addition, and I thought I'd take a chance and give it a try (given how widely acclaimed the series is and how I generally love RPGs). I know I've hardly put any time into it. But being older and busier, life is too short and free time too valuable to sink hours into something I'm not having fun with (and reading that it takes 50-100 hours to finish this, with a "learning curve" period of at least 10 hours is not motivating me).
I know I lose all credibility to "hardcore" gamers if I bail on this. But I think I might want to put this aside and get into Witcher 3 instead (having loved the first 2 games in the series, I know that's a good long game that I can really get into).

Re: What are you playing? (January 2016)
You know what I mean. Progress save points ... the campfires. If I spend time exploring and have to stop playing, I have to replay everything since the last campfire when I play next. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with how Dark Souls does things. Just that it is not my gaming preference. I knew that going in, but wanted to give it a shot anyway. I've played, and enjoyed, many games that have a "checkpoint" save system rather than letting you save anywhere. I guess it comes down to how much time it takes for me to get to the next checkpoint, and how annoying/frustrating I find replaying sections.

Witcher 3 is easily my game of the year, and one of my top 10 of all time. I wish I could play it again for the first time.

Pretty addicted to Gems of War. I just hit level 50. They need to balance the PVP though. I'm constantly getting matched up against people 40+ levels higher than me who can kill my troops in one hit. In the last week I haven't been matched up with a single person who wasn't at least 10 levels higher than me.
Also played through the first world of A Boy and his Blob which recently got released on PS4 (a port of the Wii game) and it's quite fun. I could see it wearing out its welcome though, it took me around 2 or so hours just to play through the first world and judging from the trophies there is 6 or 7 of them.

I finished up Just Cause 3. Played about 2 hours of Black Ops III and then spent most of my time getting into Fallout 4. Need to make progress on that one as the collected version of Dying Light is due out earlier February and want to get my hands on that.

Getting all the trophies on Shadow of the Colossus. All I have to do now is get all the fruit, beat hard mode, and beat Hard Mode Time Attack. Easy stuff. Time consuming but easy.
