I don't know if anyone else on the board has used PS Now enough to answer this question.

Yeah. There was a lot of interest when it first was announced, and then when the crazy rental prices came out, everyone balked. I don't know anyone who's gone back even now that they have a monthly subscription option (which they didn't have until earlier this year)

All those games are now remastered on the PS4 and look better than ever.
Save your money and buy a PS4!

Well, I ended up finding a retail copy, but I put it down after I saw that it would take up more than 50gigs of hard-drive space. That is ridiculous! Guess I'm sticking to my PS3 versions...

I would be disappointed if 3 remastered games didn't take up that much space. It would make me wonder just how much of an improvement there is in the 3 games. I picked it up after telling myself to wait for other games and I'm not disappointed at all after just playing an hour or so of the first game. Can't wait to see what 2 and 3 are like in their new iterations.

I would think it would just install one game at a time.

You're surprised 3 games take up 50 GB? That's only ~17 GB each. I'm surprised they didn't take up more space to be honest. The Last of Us Remastered was around 40 GB by itself, so we're lucky the Uncharted collection wasn't 100+ GB.

Maybe he figured more of it would be on the disc.

Yeah but that's one thing I like about the PS4 over the Xbox One. Installing the games happens in the background, so removing older titles isn't as bothersome as some XB One titles.

Like I don't dare remove Halo MCC even though I don't play it, because I know if I do I will never touch it again.

Exactly. Uncharted 3 alone was something like 43 GB on the PS3, so to fit three games with higher quality assets in just about the same amount of space is pretty astonishing.

Wow. I never had a PS3 so I didn't know the file sizes were that big for these games back then too. That makes slop's complaint about the PS4 file size even more confusing. He's complaining that the three games combined have a large file size when one of them alone was nearly that big last gen.

How did they compress the games so much while making the assets higher quality? Going from ~40 GB to ~20 GB per game seems like a whole lot of compression to me, but maybe I just don't understand the technology. I know they removed the multiplayer in the PS4, but I wouldn't think multiplayer would take up that much data.

Re: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection - 10/9/15, PS4

It's just that I have no other games that take up that much space - not Dragon Age, not even Witcher 3 with all of it's DLC. I have maybe 5 spare gigs, so I'd have to delete a lot to make room.

Sounds like it is time to upgrade that hdd and never have to worry again. It is nice to see a huge collection of games on my console and when I check the free space, I see that there is still 1tb or so remaining.

I read up on upgrading the hdd - sounds like a pain in the dick. Also, I'm pretty lazy - that is, as far as doing stuff for myself. If someone asked me to upgrade their hdd, I'd do it no problem.

It could also be that the original file size was bloated. I'm not saying that in a bad way, but when you know you're reading off a disc, some devs will duplicate certain chunks of data for faster access. The prerendered videos could also have been larger in file size.
