The VG assets exist. The LEGO toys exist. It's just simple matter of accepting the money despite the competition. I don't see it as any different than Microsoft making Office available on Apple platforms. It happens. Dimensions has to be successful and show that there's a market for those of us who didn't buy in to Infinity.
I still hope there'll be a launch day offer somewhere and we find out this week. Otherwise, I may just have to settle for the core set and wait. Besides, it's not like Rock Band 4, Fallout 4, and Star Wars: Battlefront aren't right around the corner to occupy my time.

If you do a search for "Lego Dimensions" on the Best Buy site there is a section at the top of the page stating a $10 BBY rewards certificate bonus for pre-ordering the game. It's not on the main $10 pre-order bonus page though. So you might wanna take a screen shot in case there are any issues.

I wanna get this but I just got Disney Infinity 3.0 and have had very little time for it so far. Plus all the sets being released at launch...

Yeah, as much as I want it, I barely play the games I have and paying full price just to turn it into a christmas gift for my son doesn't make sense.

If the Doctor Who stuff were available on day one, I'd probably buy it then. Since that's staggered a bit, I'll wait until early November and get the game and the first Who set then. I've been sitting on a bunch of gift cards for a year now, and that's as good excuse as any to burn 'em off.

All systems and at this particular store they had them out on the counter and were getting ready to put them out. The funny thing is that they had very little out for the Skylanders game that actually released today. Now, I saw stacks of boxes, which I am assuming had a bunch of the additional LEGO stuff but I wasn't taking any chances and I will get those things bit by bit from Best Buy to save a little money.

The game is pretty fun. After the tutorial, which shows you step by step how to build everything, you go to your first game level.
Once you complete that level you then go to the hub that has all sorts of portals that take you to levels in the game and your game pack levels, assuming that you purchase them. It doesn't look like getting the Platinum or all achievements will be as exhaustive but I could be wrong. I'm glad we picked it up.
You have to build:
The portal decoration which is way over a hundred pieces.
The Batmobile
All 3 figures

Do we have confirmation that these sets and figures will work with GCU? I'm don't have GCU yet, but this may push me to get it.

According to my BB.com shopping cart, yes.
Edit: I have put the starter set, a level pack, a team pack, and a fun pack in there for a grand total of $34 off

Where do you guys store all of your "toys to life" stuff? I only have infinity and storing the figures i have is a problem. i can't imagine what folks do that collect skylanders as well and the new lego stuff.

All my kids Disney Infinity and Skylanders figures are just in a big tub that my wife bought from the dollar store, piled on top of each other. It's probably the most efficient way to save space, but not the most efficient way if you're looking for a particular figure.

I think all of these lego items and the portal will fit into one very small tub. These figures are the same size as the mini figures you get in sets and the vehicles, other stuff are not much bigger.

don't they get all scratched up? Right now I keep all of mine on a closet shelf.

I just need to know if you can use any minifig for any level, and I'm in. I saw a gameplay video with a bunch of characters from different IPs playing, but I think that may be the on-disc one. I need to know if I can have Batman and Homer in the Back to the Future set. That's one of the things that really turned me off of Infinity.

Yeah Infinity's limitations make the figures completely inconsequential. Really turned me off too.
However, LEGO is different as there is built in activity in building real mini-sets. Also LEGO is renowned for packing their games with unlockable characters. I'm hoping this game is no different. If you can't put Homer in BTTF maybe you'll be able to unlock Flea, "Clint Eastwood" or ZZtop.

All the previews I've read have said any character can be used in any situation.

My main interest has become the Adventure Worlds for all of the different brands. How big they are, what there is to do, etc because that will be the major factor of the replayability in my opinion.

I know it's antithetical to what they're going for, but it'd be nice if they just offered a version of the game that included everything being unlockable without the toys, either for free or via dlc keys. I'd love to play the game, just for the mixing of IPs. I'm take-it-or-leave-it on having a bunch of related Lego toys being required to play. I'm totally against having to swap out toys on an interface that requires a 15-foot cord across the floor to be positioned next to where I'm sitting.
If I could pick up the game for $60 and maybe drop $2-$3 per character/vehicle I wanted to add, they'd make some money off of me. As it stands, they likely won't. And I imagine having a toy-less version available as an option wouldn't cut too far into the toy sales, as the people that want it for that reason would still buy them.

For me, as a LEGO fan first and foremost, it's only because the minifigs exist that make this worthwhile to me. It's what separates it from Skylanders and Infinity because I feel like I... I mean, my kids... can play with the physical toys outside of the video game.
The virtual world is just a bonus.
