I just want game and mic. Probably won't pick up any instruments. We basically used it as a karaoke game in our house with sometimes someone playing drums.
Pretty stoked for this announcement.

Not once in the thousands of hours I've spent playing Rock Band have I thought about guitar straps being or not being in the game.

Although I'm glad to hear this, I have no plans to buy any of the consoles so I'll hold out hope for a PC version at some point down the line. They don't seem to be outright denying it's a possibility, as they only mentioned that it wouldn't be released simultaneously with XO/PS4.
BTW, this is definitely a game I would purchase digitally instead of on a disc. With no impending sequels, there would be no desire to sell it back, and this sort of thing lends itself to short bursts of play. I'd want to have it always available to boot up for a quick track or two.

Yep I was trying to be sarcastic. I actually never noticed guitar straps missing until I read that article.

I still have everything that came in the RB2 bundle (plus the keyboard from RB3 bundle - RIP )
I think everything is wireless except the mic. Did they ever come out with one of those?

nows a good time (3 years ago would have been a better time) to check the battery compartments in all your unused wireless guitars and drums for leakage before they're ruined.

They aren't Rock Band-branded, but Microsoft made their own (compatible with basically every music game) for the 360. It looks like there are a bunch of third-party -- generally no-name -- wireless mics for the PS3, but they all have pretty abysmal ratings on Amazon.
I have a brand new, in the box, Rock Band 3 set with all the insturments just sitting in my attic. I got it on clearance from Target for around 25 bucks and just kept it just in case an instrument set went down.
Only death in the instrument family was my wireless Rock Band 2 guitar bit the dust a year ago. It just stopped working. But it didn't really matter as I always use the full size wood Fender all the time and it was just for bass use when groups were over. Instead of cracking open the spare, the Guitar Hero model from one of their last games finally gets some use! My wireless Beatles drums have held up very well. I never cared for the guitar that came with that set so it is just sitting in a box somewhere.

I have my working instruments in a tub in the garage. In the attic I have a boxed RB2 drum set I picked up at a garage sale as well as a complete in-the-box Beatles Full Band Bundle. The latter one, though, isn't really up for use by me.
