They know how things work: If you underperform, Sony shuts you down. This was a preemptive strike. I hope it works out for them.

I think hiring Paul Sams will be a big help. The team is talented no doubt and while The Order underperformed, the mechanics, design, look, details, characters were all solid. Hopefully Sams can more or less give them a more solid direction. Frankly...I'd still like to see a The Order:1887 or second part but a bit of more open and longer.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

If Ready At Dawn, with the full backing and marketing arm of Sony turned in a game (even with an extended development cycle) that turned out like ..... that one, what sort of a game do you think they'd make on their own for multiplatform?

I bet what they really want is some sort of sweet XO exclusive deal like MS gave to Insomniac. The thing is 1) Ready At Dawn isn't Insomniac and 2) Sunset Overdrive wasn't that great or that big a hit. Will be interesting to see what happens next. Clearly this is how Microsoft wants to make exclusive content going forward.

And at $16, I'm in.

Was just coming here to post the same thing. Might be better to put it in the deal thread though.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

Well I finished the game today. I stopped at the final chapter diving in other various games...Far Cry 4, Diablo RoS, Destiny and The Last of Us which still need to finish.

Overall I thought the game was better than the critic scores. I've played far worse games that got higher scores than this. Through out the whole game I encountered just one bug....I got stuck in a doorway but it was when I hit the buttons to pick up ammo and another gun at the same time and he wouldn't move. Other than that the game was bug free.

The game actually had a lot going for it if you looked at the different parts.....

Soundtrack - top notch and impressive
Story - solid, good overall, nice twists at the end and almost a made for movie or mini-series.
Visuals - second to none...just stunning
Concept - A sort of Old Victorian Age setting with futuristic elements and werewolves....also solid
Characters - all very good, nice balance...would've be neat to play them all

There were areas of the mechanics of the gameplay that felt a bit restrictive. Would've been better to have a bit more freedom and a looser combat. The final chapter should've been the whole game . probably one of the very few and rare times where it was too much detail ....like the huge model ships in the glass boxes,,,almost to distracting and made you constantly want to look.

The sad thing is the game has all the parts, pieces and a foundation for a better second game...The Order: 1887... especially the last chapter ending(s) and it's a good chance we won't see it. It would be such a waste since everything for a part two is already in place...just do some fine tuning on the gameplay, combat and action.

For what it is worth, I enjoyed my experience overall with The Order more than the latest Batman game. I would probably give it a 7 out of 10.

I didn't play the latest Batman...shame the game is having issues because the other two I did play and they were a blast....but I gave The Order a 7.5-10

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

Finally played this and finished it today. I enjoyed it overall, but the sad thing is it really felt that the game could have been great with just a few additions and changes. It really is like the PS4 version of Ryse - pretty to look at and a great setting and atmosphere, but a rather short game and mediocre gameplay.

-The level design is weird, there's a lot of rooms you can walk in to with nothing there.
-They should have turned the articles and items you can look at in to some form of collectible (like Gears dog tags or something) to at least make those mean something in the scope of the game.
-The pace of the game and movement feels like it should have been sped up a bit.
-Needs some more action set pieces.
-The game ends somewhat abruptly with so much unresolved (the fate of The Order, Lord Hastings, the relationship with Igraine, etc).

I didn't even mind the non-interactive chapters since I liked where the story was going, just wish it was another hour or two longer of game to play. I'd play a sequel

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

Pretty much spot on with how I felt... the game & music was just great and man the detail everywhere was just fantastic. And the overall story was good as well. I like playing with the semi-futuristic weapons....which many you really didn't get to play with as much as you wished. And it did leave off for a sequel which sadly we probably won't ever see...

I still feel that this game would have done a lot better ratings wise if it wasn't full priced on release.

Haven't played it yet, but I bought this on the PS Store a few weeks ago for $5. So yeah, even if the game is just average, the price to disappointment ratio would be very low.

This game is worth $4.

It's been predicted endlessly, but I don't think it ever actually was.

This is a nice retrospective. Sure would be nice if the 60fps patch could be used on unhacked PS5 consoles.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

I haven't watched the video yet, but what a blast from the past this thread is. I was so psyched for this game leading up to its release. I was really relieved to see that I didn't actually buy the game but rented it instead 😅 I've made many similar mistakes over the years and I totally could see myself doing that here and forgetting later.
Can't believe this was only 8 years ago -- feels much longer ago.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

In hindsight, I think the game was generally better than it was given credit for, especially when it came to reviews, but it was definitely not without some legitimate problems. I was happy with the gunplay (as sparse as it felt at times) and loved the 'cinematic' camera throughout, including the permanent black bars.
A sequel would have been nice, especially with that ending.

I actually re-bought this a few months ago at Gamestop for $5. Maybe I'll pop it in and give it another go.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

I played a couple hours, IIRC, and it was enjoyable but suffered from one of my gaming pet peeves and that's movement speed. There's pacing for drama/story, and then there's this game which is a whole other level and felt like intentional padding of an already short game. Give the character a normal pace and it'd probably be a 3 hour game.

Re: The Order: 1886 - PS4 (2/20/2015)

It was hyped up game that visually, was almost unmatched with the sheer details in the outfits alone. Like many others before it and even now, the trailers showed the Best of making it into something far better....it was short, the areas tight, restricted with a narrow go to Point A then B then c, etc.. forced play...The Voice Acting and Characters top notch as well as the overall story was really good. The Gun Mechanics were fun BUT there wasn't enough time given to really use them. If they took basically the story, characters, setting, game mechanics and expanded the entire World...say like take Paris out of Assassin's Greed Unity and have it as your Playground, this game would've been a 10 easily...

Got me wanting to revisit this one now, I never finished it originally.

And agree with Decker, this does seem much longer ago than 8 years.

Probably a "Snowball's chance in Hell" this will ever happen especially after the Studio was acquired by Meta and then gutted...sill a Great Dream to have.....

Even though the studio went to Meta and then got dismantled, the intellectual property is almost assuredly still owned by Sony. But they seem to have zero interest in continuing the franchise.
