The Official PSP Thread - Part 3

Ok, I'm still confused on the PSP video system with firmware 2.80. I know they added a VIDEO folder you can use now, but how is it used and what is it used for? Do videos still have to be named the same way?

Thanks

I recommend getting PSPvideo9. It will handle all of your conversion and transfer needs.

You can now place all your videos in that directory, also the naming scheme is no longer strict... ie. you can name the files whatever you want.

I bought the PSP $199 pack last week. Picked up Hot Shots Golf. What size memory stick is enough for gaming and music? I don't plan on saving movies on it. I know there are some overpriced ones out there, but is there a place where you can get a decent deal on a card? Also, what's the best software to get to transfer music on the PSP? also, do I need to get the USB cable as well?

I guess I'm just asking what I should get to make the PSP fully fuctional.

thanks.

My version of PSP is 2.5. Are you supposed to update or is 2.5 good enough? Also, what do these new versions for? Do they improve performance or features?

I think this memory stick will work, $49.99 for 2gb after rebate: http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4434556

Good lord, that's cheap! I can fit two full-length movies on a 1 GB card. If you just want music, a 512 would probably be okay and certainly 1 GB would be plenty for about 16-20 CDs worth of music. The game save files are miniscule.

I tried and it did NOT work. I think they need to be a certain size, sound type and a few other thing also.....320x240 possibly? Not sure...nice for Sony NOT to mention these little tidbits.

Is it still only .mp4's also?

You'll need a USB cable unless your computer has a card reader, in which case, you'd need a memory stick adaptor (they often come with Memory Stick Duos). The cable is that standard USB one that comes with any digital camera, so they're not hard to find and not expensive.

That's correct, the PSP still only accepts its own format for videos. Only the naming requirements have been made lax.

Any rumors on when a pricedrop might happen? Can I expect a $99 or $149 price, realistically?

I played the Killzone demo and man was it fun. Graphics, gameplay, and control are all top-notch. I can't wait for the actual game to come out - I'll be picking it up the day it comes out.

I played the demo a few times. It's pretty fun, but I'm not yet convinced that it's a must-buy for me. I like the level of detail in the environment and the perspective is different than most games these days, making it feel old-school. It might be worth picking up as part of the upcoming TRU sale.

Sony is going to have to price drop it. The sales of it are falling further and further behind the DS every day even in the US so Sony will have to address this. I will probably buy another one when/if it hits $99.

I know there's nothing quite as passe as discussing games in a PSP thread, but just had to post that I finally bought Tekken : Dark Resurrection (got a mint copy off ebay). The game looks absolutely amazing. I can't believed it's on a portable -- it's near high-def level graphics. Plays great as well. If anyone is on the fence about this one, I'd say pick it up (maybe in next week's TRU sale). I'm completely blown away.

I agree with you. The game is definitely one of the best looking on the PSP. Were you able to get one of the D-pad attachments? I got one when I picked my copy up from Gamestop and it definitely makes it easier to pull off combos.

Isn't the D-Pad attachment a permanent thing?

Also, I thought Sony was going to release a revised PSP with like 4gb of internal memory and other changes? Was that just rumor or is it still in the works?

It is a 4gb add on drive that will cost more than the PSP, around $260.

Great. I just bought one last week. How could they improve upon the controls? I'm not bothered by them yet, but could the analog stick be improved?

Also, as far as transferring songs goes, is the "Media Manager" for PSP the best option? I won't be using this for movies at all, just mainly music.

For transferring songs you dont necessarily need any tool to do it just dump the mp3's or wma's under the music folder. That being said the new 2.0 version of media manager is a BIG improvement over version 1.0 and will encode to atrac3 and automatically move over album art. To me atrac3 is a better sounding format at lower resolutions that wma or mp3 so if you want pack as many songs as possible atrac3 seems to be the right format. Not to mention the software underwent a price drop from 29.99 to 16.99. All in all the new version seems to be well worth $17.

Thought I'd bump this threat up because there are a couple big releases this week for the PSP, GTA: VCS and Killzone Liberation. Is anyone else picking up one, or both games? I for one am looking forward to VCS as Vice City remains my favorite GTA game, and I'm anxious to return there in this sequel(prequel?).

Anyone know what the Firmware requirement for GTA Vice City Stories will be?

Also, has anyone picked up the new Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded? It supposedly came out last week.
