You know, it's not my genre of choice by any means, but I've been so bored by so many titles this year (MGS V wore off quick, Halo 5 had me dozing off when I played it earlier today, Arkham Knight was surprisingly dull, the music games have lost their luster for me, etc; ) that i'm going to give this a shot.

This game still appeals to me. As i probably already stated, i am sure to many it will be a snoozefest and interest will wear off really quickly, but back in the day of games like Mercenary and Damocles it was fun simply to explore. It will be a nice change of pace to not have the direct aim to be to blow the crap out of things. Someone saying the graphics look last gen.....looks really nice if you ask me.

Updated thread title to reflect official release date.
Also, this is getting a physical retail release, and it'll be priced at the usual $59.99. More on Sony's blog.

I don't see any information on the Limited Edition. I might spring for that.

Damn, they're going all out on this. Impressive for a new IP.
I like the blog post saying that they've been quiet since E3 since people here were complaining about them talking about it with no release date.

Kinda got tired of waiting for this. Hopefully my interest can be renewed in the coming months because this game has serious potential.

No matter what your favorite video game site/blog/whatever is, they posted a hands-on preview of the game earlier today. Eurogamer opened their preview with your question:
Well over two years after No Man's Sky was unveiled, Hello Games' Sean Murray is still fielding the same question that's been circling this game from the very start. And each and every time he's answered it patiently, diligently and, somewhat commendably, without displaying any frustration at having to repeat himself all over again. So, with No Man's Sky finally available in playable form during a press event, let's run through this one more time. Just for old time's sake. What is it you actually do in this game?
Quite a lot, as it turns out.

There's not an official release date yet for Playstation VR, but who's to say it won't be available by the end of June? Not saying it will be, but I'm sure Sony wants to get it out sooner rather than later since the HTC Vive is going to be shipping in the next month and Oculus is coming in April.

I'm getting this no matter what. It's something different, looks cool as hell and will seem to go on for a long time. I've kept up it from the start and some of the exploring figures and stats that were coming out were mind boggling. Just seems like a game if you want to sit down 8hrs straight fine, hit it a few hours a week fine...and there will always be something new to see and do....and kudos for the different editions, really impressive.

No Man’s Sky: A Universe Filled with Lore and Language
A good article and this one little number is just mind boggling.....
a near-infinite universe to explore, upcoming PS4 sci-fi epic No Man’s Sky is promising adventure without compare. However, think of any great space saga, and it’s at least partially defined by its cast of characters. With an intergalactic sandbox made up of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 unique planets, how on Earth is developer Hello Games planning to fill all those worlds with consistent story, dialogue, lore, and language?

Bolding that sentence is fun!

It's cool, but I don't get fixated on the number itself since I imagine they created a certain number of landscapes, terrain, objects, etc and have a system that automatically generates each planet randomly based on the different variables they have. I think that's what flashburn is getting at, randomized levels/dungeons/areas whatever isn't that new.

Yeah, exactly Stan. Hell, Elite Dangerous has a "realistically" mapped galaxy. They could double that number if they wanted to without almost any effort. It's just silly.
