re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

As time has gone on I think the Mass Effect games were my favorite from last generation....with Mass Effect 2 being one of my favorites of all time.

The setting...the music...the story. I know a lot of people did not like how the story ended, but the journey was fantastic. The universe they created was so rich. You could spend hours just reading codex entries, something I usually skip, and marvel at how much time and effort went into these games.

And the combat. On Insanity difficulty these might be the perfect games. I loved the way they played out. I loved the paper/rock/scissors aspect of combat that was needed on the highest difficulty, and using your party to pick apart every situation like it was nothing.

I know the game will have an amazing setting. I know the world it creates will be one I want to spend time in. I just hope they did not fuck up the perfectly balanced combat from Mass Effect 2 and 3 (1 was stupid broken easy on insanity so I am not counting that one)

Any word on if this will be a self-contained story/game, or multiple releases like the last three?

As of now stand alone...but they may bring future parts to the game.

quote from the creative director

“To be clear,” Walter said. “Just because Andromeda isn’t the start of a trilogy, doesn’t mean we haven’t been planning for future adventures. Just not three acts.”

Same here, it's an easy buy for me and my favorite franchise from last generation. The trailers haven't been too inspiring, but the series has earned a must buy for me.

That's good to hear.

As much as liked that last ME games, cliff-hangers in videogames you spend $60 on and have to wait 2 years for a resolution to are the pits!

Well shit. It looks like Best Buy is now offering a free steelbook with preorders. Except I already preordered it using the Visa Checkout discount. I did a quick chat and they said if it's not showing on my order, then I would need to re-order it to make sure I get one. But I think I'm going to place a second order at a different Best Buy just in case they have extras when I pick mine up.

I locked in a price mistake at amazon a while back, getting the deluxe edition for 47 bucks...They never fixed the price on my preorder, so I am happy.

If you read the description, then you know as much as the rest of us.

That being said, I did buy the deluxe version since it contains single player help/content.

I did not buy the Super Deluxe version as I don't plan on doing much multiplayer.

It comes with a digital copy of the soundtrack. That alone was worth it to me.

The miscellaneous digital crap will probably be worth the $8 difference that it will be with GCU. At least I hope so.

re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

Mass Effect: Andromeda Is Dropping Paragon And Renegade Conversation Options

In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine (via GamesRadar), Mass Effect: Andromeda creative director Mac Walters said Paragon and Renegade are gone, "because they felt very Shepard--they were very tied to the Shepard character, so they didn't really make sense if we weren't going to have Shepard as our main protagonist."

"What we have now is based more around agreeing and disagreeing," he continued. "The reason I like that is because in the trilogy it’s like, 'I'm gonna play Paragon,' and then you know which way you're moving the stick on every conversation. You don’t have to think about it, because you're just going to hit Paragon every time."

Players of previous Mass Effect games will know if you want to make the best version of your character stats-wise, you have to pick Paragon or Renegade and stick with it, nuance be damned. This new system is designed to get away from binary moral choices, to encourage players to actually pay attention to conversations, and choose dialog options that make sense for their character. "With agree and disagree it changes by the circumstance and it changes by the character you’re talking to," Walters said, "so you have to actually be more engaged in what's going on, to know if you're going to do that."

The new system also includes four different tones of voice, which "basically allow other types of characters to express them[selves] in one of four different ways, and sometimes one of two different ways," Walters confirmed. "And I think that gets back to that more traditional role-playing sort of feeling which is less about 'Do I want to be good or bad,' and more about 'How do I want to express myself?"
I'm totally on board with this . There were multiple times I was playing through the other games choosing the Paragon option just because it was the "good" option, even though I liked some of the other conversation choices more.

Good. I hated having to choose. I always chose Paragon but often wondered what the Renegade choices were

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda - 3/21/17

I love the Mass Effect series, although the first game is unplayable now. I'm really looking forward to Andromeda. Just another week and a bit.

Even now, I still play ME3 multiplayer, and am pleasantly surprised to see that tons of other people still play it too five years after its release.
