It should be nearly identical for every title in existence for Xbox One and PS4. Every title is "fully installed" from the disc or download. The disc-based installs don't "run off the disc" at all. The disc IS only used for authentication after the install is complete, it literally serves no other purpose. The same logic applied to all PS3 games, and a bunch of 360 games.

Re: HALO: The Master Chief collection

That was basically my point: if you're not connected to the internet they have to provide a playable version of the game that installs from the disc, but if you are online they basically ignore the disc and just install the digital version, albeit one that still requires your old outdated disc for authentication.

In the case of Halo:MCC this 20gb patch almost certainly takes the place of stuff on the core install rather than being added to it.

Re: HALO: The Master Chief collection

I don't get the complaining about file size for those opting to go digital. You can pre-download the first 45GB right now and Microsoft has already confirmed they're going to allow users to download the 20GB day one patch the moment its available prior to the midnight launch.

I am really tempted to cancel my pre-order and do the pre-order/pre-download route especially since Microsoft said the game will be live at 12:01 AM EST.

They said that about Forza Horizon 2 as well, and it absolutely was not available at 12:01 eastern.

No, but the concern is still valid.

This is the console's "killer app" of the year and the last thing Microsoft needs is a plethora of fans crying on social networking at 12:01am EST that they can't play the game.

Re: HALO: The Master Chief collection

I've only played the first Halo and never thought much of it since but I have a hook up at Microsoft so I figure this would be a good way to give the whole series a try. Looking forward to it more then I thought I would.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection to Add 50 More Achievements

Announced on the Halo Waypoint blog last night, B is for Bravo had this to say: "As you know, Halo: The Master Chief Collection ships with 400 achievements worth 4000 gamerscore. However, your journey through Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an ongoing one, and as part of our launch content update, we will be rolling out another 50 achievements worth 500 gamerscore. For this round of achievements, we wanted to focus on community and the new multiplayer features being offered by the new maps and modes within Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer. Have a look."

The new set of achievements will also bring speed runs into focus, tasking players with beating each campaign on Legendary in under three hours. Hopefully these will simply add up your best times for each level and not require a full playthrough for each attempt. The new achievements will assumedly be part of the 20GB content update detailed a few weeks ago.

Delusional much?
  • Halo:CE and Halo 2 were designed for the Xbox.
  • Halo:CE - Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 were designed for the Xbox 360.
  • Halo 2: Anniversary is the only game designed for the Xbox One.
While 343i did use the upgraded assets from the PC versions of the first two games alongside the already existing HD assets from Halo 3 and Halo 4, these games were never going to be drastic improvements compared to their original counterparts.

Regardless, these games look phenomenal for being over a decade old.

Re: HALO: The Master Chief collection

I like how people are even trying to review this game. It's every Halo on one disc with an amazing interface and updated graphics. It's obviously going to get a 9-10 from everyone. It's such fan service that it's almost un-rateable.

Major Nelson was streaming this one last night. Very impressive considering the game of the games. I'm down for this one in December at a reduced cost.

There are many approaches to take that are valid ways to review this collection. No one had a problem reviewing the Star Wars theatrical re-releases. Perspective adds a new topic to talk about in a review, because time HAS passed. Are the games still relevant? Is the storytelling still unique? Are they all still worth playing?

Just because it was great once does not mean it's still great.

Having only played mostly mulitplayer and hardly any single player, and never owning any previous Xbox consoles (just played it friends), the whole Star Wars argument is irrelevant for me. Not only that, but a movie is a movie, and a game is a game. You can't compare what makes a movie great to what makes a game great. That's why there aren't many movies based on games that make great movies.
