Good article on why this is an Xbox exclusive: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/...-one-exclusive
So it really just came down to MS letting Insomniac retain ownership of the IP.

Sounds about right and makes sense, Microsoft gets a console exclusive and make it look like a studio famous for Playstation game is on their side and Insomniac gets to own the IP.

As for SO, it looks like the sort of thing I might enjoy, and I wish it had been cross-platform.
But Insomniac has had a really shaky track record lately, so I'd recommend cautious optimism. Their two full Ratchet & Clank games were some of my favorites from last gen, even if they weren't a great departure from the PS2 games, and the first Resistance showed promise for a franchise that never really panned out, but otherwise, Insomniac's output from last gen was pretty disappointing.
I think it's great news that they get to keep the IP. If the game is hugely successful, the franchise should find its way to other platforms.

The previews for Sunset Overdrive aren't doing much for me, it looks like an uneasy mix of InFamous and Ratchet and Clank set in Legoland. None of which is much of a pro in my book.

I can't bring myself to play any more of Infamous. After loving the first two games, this one just feels like wash, rinse, repeat.

This is the first time Mondo has done a video game print. What attracted you to Sunset Overdrive?
Justin Ishmael, Mondo CEO: We’d noticed the game from trailers and early announcements and the art really caught our eye. Eventually Microsoft showed us assets and other behind-the-scenes materials and it all looked so nuts and seemed really cool… so we decided to give it a shot! We knew Matt Taylor was the perfect guy for the project and he definitely delivered.

Just saw like a 5-6 minute preview during the First Look segment in the movie theater prior to Guardians of the Galaxy. Looked okay, but I don't think it was well received in our movie house. Probably not the best way to sell a new game to the general public. I'd think just a 1-2 minute commercial would have been more appropriate for a movie theater audience.

For those that complained that the grinding appeared to be too slow...
Insomniac just announced (via their SO video update that they do once in awhile) that they've added a boost button (RB on your controller). Press it, and you speed up. Simple as that... when the game is, y'know... released. Pressing RB now won't do much for you at all.

I don't care for a white console, but a white controller looks pretty neat to me.

If anyone here is planning to buy the white console, but doesn't want the digital copy of SO, maybe we can work out a deal/trade/something. Just throwing it out there in case anyone's interested.

Some positives on another early look at the game, although from Polygon the worst review site on the planet and the bane of gaming journalism - http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/22/655...liked-it-a-lot
I played for two hours and was not bored for one single second. I cannot say if this extremeness of fun is sustainable for longer periods, but as a mission-by-mission fantasy world, the early game is varied and pleasing.
I found myself gallivanting around town, firing off silly Saints Row-style guns at chasing monstrosities and I found myself holed up in tight areas, defending a glowing Important Thing against enemy capture. There is always the potential for such things to grow tiring after a while, and it is to be hoped that later missions continue to offer variety and diversion.
Having just played some of the ponderously scripted Destiny, I'm pleased to report that characters, dialog and narrative are all gloriously inane and funny. I created a protagonist who I wanted to be, and spent a happy time interacting with foolish characters who I was delighted to meet.

polygon is a pretty new site (few years or so) but they are pretty damn respected.

Well since they used the phrase "extremeness of fun", I'm going to guess closer to worst review sit on the planet.
