A good feature on Black Tusk/Coalition and how they started working on the Gears Franchise.

It also touches on some of the discussion we had earlier regarding the franchise and K&A believing Microsoft could/should have made a game sooner as the article confirms changes with Epic Games when talking about Rod Fergusson.

Less than a year after shipping Gears of War 3 in September of 2011 as executive producer, and after helping Polish developer People Can Fly jump-start production on Gears of War: Judgment, Fergusson saw the writing on the wall as Chinese multimedia conglomerate Tencent bought a 40 percent stake in Epic Games for more than 300 million dollars.
"They weren't going in a direction I wanted to go," Fergusson says, "and in my position as director of production I wasn't in a position I wanted to have anymore. With Tencent's involvement, it was very clear they were moving toward a free-to-play model. I wanted to do AAA big games on covers of magazines that people talk about, and sitting around working on patch after patch was not something I felt very excited about. So I told Mike Capps [then-president of Epic Games] 'I'm out.'"

Nice. Now I really need to sell my old hard copies of those games. That's makes the Ultimate Edition a great deal.

Ultimate Edition reviews seem about what I'd expect, the improvements sound pretty good.

Our library ended up getting this in. I'm not really in the mood to play through the whole game now, but did MS go into more detail on how much needs to be played in order to get access to the other games on XB1?

This was delivered today from my Microsoft Store preorder. $10 off thanks to Golden Crisp and 15,000 reward points incoming made it a no brainer for me. I need to finish up Murdered Soul Suspect, but should be able to dive in this weekend.

Giant Bomb Review : http://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/gea...view/1900-709/
Confirms what I was worried about -- dated gameplay that doesn't hold up well and a singular focus on competitive multiplayer. Might return my copy unopened to the Microsoft Store despite the discount and preorder bonus...

Weird to base things off literally the one negative review (so far), but I got the impression you were already down on this from some of the replies i've seen you make about the release. Everywhere else is positive and the average is an 82 with 39 reviews.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-...timate-edition
The impression I got from other reviews is that some sections feel dated, but overall the game holds up and looks great. But I guess that depends on how much you enjoyed the original game and the series. I popped it in just for the intro and i'm impressed at how great it looks myself.
