Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

You'd think a PS4 subscription would be much easier, since they could follow the EA model, not have to do some complicated streaming with backend processing, and just have the games download to the system (I would assume same with PS and PS2 titles... surely even with architectural differences the PS4 can render those natively, right?)

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

7day rentals for $5(at most) is the only way I'd be interested in pursuing per title rentals. For a subscription... I'm not sure. $120/year seems reasonable to me... maybe up to $180/year tops. I guess it would depend on the titles and quality of service.

Well, keep in mind that Playstation Now isn't exclusive to the PS4, it's also intended for the Vita and some TVs, so streaming is the only option that will work for all these devices.

If they wanted to offer some sort of separate direct-download subscription service specifically for the PS4, they could, but it wouldn't be Playstation Now.

Did Grid 2 have a slower framerate on the PS3? It seemed a little choppy

Well this current Beta is totally useless. If there's not one single game I can TRY on the service to see if I like the streaming enough to eventually rent something, I'll never give them a dime.

Wow, that sucks. In the private beta, there were a bunch of free games to try

Yes, I checked again yesterday, and there is not one free game to try to stream.

The 7 day rental seems to only way to go. The 4 hour rental is a ripoff, and with the 30 and 90 day rental prices, you might as well just buy the game. This is turning out to be really stupid and ironic, saying the EA All Access or whatever it's called wasn't of great value. Compared to this, it is.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

The prices are ridiculous and as a result, I bet nobody (okay, almost nobody) actually pays money for the rentals during the beta. I can only assume that this result will give Sony the message loud and clear that their pricing sucks and maybe they'll come back with something less insane. They're already taking a huge PR hit and I can only imagine how much worse it would be if this were officially "a thing" already. Now they can cloak themselves in the "It was only a beta" excuse and still save face before the official launch.

It's a shame, because I found the actual service pretty good and responsive. Well, the only fast-paced action game I tried -- that Matt Hazzard game -- controlled terribly, but that could just be the awful game itself.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

The EA program and pricing announcement has to be a huge blow to Sony. Whatever pricing structure they come up with now is going to be a joke compared to what EA is charging. To be fair though, Sony is going to have a huge library, so I could see them going a little higher though. But nothing like the prices they are offering now. They really need a yearly rate, even if they come in at $50 - $60, it would be worth it if you had access to that big of a library of games.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

Well, the $30 EA Access is for four next-gen games (one of which was on sale for $6 recently), so it's not the same thing at all. But yeah, they need some sort of a subscription plan, clearly.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

Also, I'm aware that the official Sony explanation of passing on EA Access was that it "wasn't a good value for our customers", but I suspect the real reason behind the scenes is that EA was shopping for which company would give them a better deal on console exclusivity and Sony wasn't interested in playing ball.

You're more than likely correct. It just seems odd still that they are going with this pricing structure. My hope is no one bites at the beta and Sony reconsiders the pricing to more reasonable rates or a subscription service.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

So... has anyone here been using PS Now since the beta opened up to all PS4 owners?

How is it?

Any info on when PS3 owners will get access?

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

I'd really like to use the service, but without a game to try out I'm not going to blindly rent a game and hope for the best. The network test says I'll be fine, but their network test always say that and then it takes me 8 days to download Fez.

It seems to me that at the very least the current PS+ Freebie should be free to stream for PS+ members.

Asinine prices and no freebies. Pretty sure the answer is 'no' for most people.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

My son still plays the Order Up! game we got for free for 90 days. He loves it and it plays great, FWIW.

But yeah, since they no longer give freebies, I can't imagine anyone using the service at these inane prices.

Huh, I chose 90 days for Eden and it's already expired. I thought it was a forced expiration.

Oh, wow! It is an all-you-can-eat service after all.

From Polygon:

Sony plans to launch PlayStation Now, its PS3 game streaming service, for the PlayStation 4 on Jan. 13 in the U.S. and Canada for $19.99 a month or $44.99 for three months, the company announced this morning.

The service will hit the PlayStation 4 first, followed by other PlayStation Now enabled devices, according to the press release.

Not interested in the service at all, but I am curious why they would have Mass Effect 2, but not 1 or 3? So strange.

I'm glad they listened and modified the plan. I'll give the free trial a shot, to see if it's any good on my connection.
