Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

It would be nice if they gave PS+ members free streaming of the current PS+ library for PS3.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

Well, if you don't have a PS3 and refuse to get one, I could see this being slightly tempting. Other than that though...

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

$20 per month is too expensive. It should be at most $10 per month. And where are all the big name games? I don't see the Batman Arkham games, or Uncharted, or Assassin's Creed, or really any big name games.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

I imagine most popular games won't end up being included given the popularity of remastered collections. It seems more likely Sony would want to sell you an updated Uncharted trilogy for $60 then let you stream them.

That's weird. Both Uncharted and Batman are pictured but not on the list. Maybe they are adding some games month by month?

Well shit, that would refute my entire earlier assumption.

It's the Netflix strategy. Only release one or two sequels and exclude the original so the customer will have to buy the original.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

I don't think it's that bad either, presuming there's games on the list you want to play. Especially since you're not locked in to anything; seems like if you know you have a lot of free time coming up, $20 to play a bunch of games you didn't get a chance to last gen and not resubscribing doesn't seem bad at all.

How many of those games could you logically play through in a month though for that $20?

Compared to other rental streaming like Netflix and Hulu, $20 is ridiculously expensive. If I'm going to spend that much, I want to actually own the title, not just rent it. Yes, I know video games are more expensive than movies, but also keep in mind that these are very old video games. They're not new. You can easily buy them very cheaply. $20 a month is $240 a year. You could buy a used console and several games for that. The only way this rental service would be a deal is there are actually many titles on there you actually want. If there's just a few, you're better off buying them.

That's how I see it, too. If/when I ever have a free week or two coming up where I know I can tackle some last-gen games... I'll cough up the $20 and play as much as I can.

Other than that, though... there's no way I'd keep the subscription active for a full year, even at the discounted 3-month rate (which is $180/year, or about a $60 savings).

Depends on the type of game. I think you could easily play $20 worth of games on there in a month; not to mention ease of access versus buying them outright. Heck, a 3 month plan seems like it would be great for kids on their summer break.

Irrelevant, since it doesn't appear that you're tied down for the entire year.

Yeah if it was $10 a month I'd subscribe in a heartbeat and promptly forget all about it.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

$20/month is indeed a lot money for this service. With all the entertainment options out there (TV, movies and physical copies of discs you may already own and haven't played much), who really has the time for this and be able to maximize it?

I work hard for my money and I'm trying not to waste it on too many unnecessary expenses for this new year. So this is a no go for me.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

If they were really smart they'd offer it for $10 for PS+ subscribers. It would give more people an incentive to join PS+ and it would be more of an impulse addition for current subscribers.

Gamefly is $23 and you only get two games a month. Sure you get new releases... if you can get them to send them to you.

That being said, I'd be down for $10. Not interested at $20.

Well, with gamefly you're also getting the physical disc. One that doesn't need a constant net connection (unless it's Destiny of course). But even then, you're still playing the game locally as opposed to on some remote PS3 somewhere.

I kind of soured on the service when I tried the beta and ran into input lag and unachievable trophies due to the fact the game wasn't on your actual system.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

I never had a problem popping trophies on Playstation Now.

And though it's sort-of cheating, anyone can get Gamefly for about $12/mo for 2 games out at a time. I assume every long-term member of that service does this every three months.

Re: Playstation Now - Streaming Service Announced.

I don't yet own a PS4 (eventually I will), but I agree that $20 is too much. It's one thing if your only interest is gaming, but when everyone has other subscriptions that they have (Hulu Plus, Netflix, WWE, etc.) this all quickly adds up to be very expensive.

It's going to be a battle for shelf space, and I expect the streaming industry to start bundling services together in the future.
