Help finding older 'scary' PC game

I remember reading about this particular game in one of the 'scariest games you've ever played' threads on this board. I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

I don't remember too many details on this game but I remember that it piqued my interest quite a bit. It was a PC game and I recall that is was more atmospheric than scary. It had kind of a night of the living dead type setting but I don't remember if there were actual zombies in it. I also remember something about a radio transmission. If I had to guess it would be a mid 90s game. I'll try to think of some additional details but that is all I can recall at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It was definitely discussed on this board though.

System Shock 2 was pretty scurry.

Alone in the Dark? I don't remember any radio transmissions, though there was an old phonograph in the game.

Phantasmagoria 2 or Gabriel Knight 2?

7th Guest or 11th Hour? Not too much to go on...

Silent Hill features a radio that informs you when enemies are close.

The zombies were slow and all, but you could always hear their breathing and groans -- and occasionally there'd be the classic "braaaains" "I hunnnnger", etc.

The zombies could also take a LOT of hits unless you were able to hit them in the head -- sometimes difficult b/c of being so dark and gloomy. You could also duck in and out w/ a crowbar and take them in a few hits. Plus ammo was pretty scarce.
Closest that I could find

You forgot to mention it's a Half Life mod:

That poster apparently got the name wrong though, the mod is called "They Hunger."

Jeez, man, could you at least tell us what genre the game was in? First person shooter? Point and click adventure from a first person perspective? Point and click adventure from a second person perspective? Were there RPG elements like in the Horrorsoft games?

Re: Help finding older 'scary' PC game

Many thanks. That is it. The "They Hunger" mod to Half-Life.

I never actually played the game so I couldn't state the type of game. I just remember reading a post about it and it sounded pretty interesting.

I know Half-Life was eventually released on the PS2. Is this mod included on the game? If not, what would I need to do to play this?

The mod wasn't ported to PS2. It's apparently been ported to Dreamcast by a fan, but most people play it on PC.

To play the mod on PC, you'll have the purchase and install the standard game Half Life. Most buy it on Steam nowadays:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/

Then download the mod and the Steam fix from here:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/they-hunger/downloads

I believe the mod will show up in Steam under "my games" after being installed.
