re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I've got a question for my XB1 friends in regards to external HD load times and performance. The PS4 update will allow us to finally have one but I've tried to find reviews and comparisons to external vs internal performance with the XB1 on this and there is nothing but stuff from a few years ago. I know "Updates" can matter to help fine tuning the system can improve performance over time but I wanted to hear from those who have used both and what their thoughts and opinions were.

I have a 2TB external... I honestly cannot comment if load times are longer or shorter-- it's not noticeable to me at all. FWIW, I have had no gaming performance issues.

We bought the 500 GB Minecraft bundle, and we're taking advantage of the local library to try out games before putting down the cash. Of course, this means every game has some absurd download and it's chewing through our hard drive pretty quickly.

I haven't had the opportunity to dig into the OS, but am I going to be able to remove the downloads we're sure we don't want to free up space?

tks

Absolutely. It's easy. Just go into your Games and Apps library, highlight the game you want to delete and select the Delete option.
You won't even lose your game save as that is backed up to the cloud.

Thank you Decker.

I wonder if I could impose again - where is the setting to have DVDs and Blurays upscaled? I'm trying to play a DVD now and it's only doing 480i.

Thanks

I don't think I own any of these games, think this is worth it for $20?

It's also easy to reinstall them later by going to the same library and looking at the Ready to Install list.

For simplistic gaming experience, yeah $2 a title is certainly worth it. But just don't expect anything amazing...most of those titles are the (in my opinion) waste the afternoon or maybe a couple of days thing and then forget about it. Certainly tempting but make sure you don't have 80% or better of those titles.

A good chunk of those have also been freebies on PS+ over the years, though if you don't have a Sony console, that's probably not going to help

It might in the sense that most will probably go free on XO at some later date.

FWIW : I really liked The Swapper. That's a solid puzzle game.

Actually good point, I think there's 3-4 I have on PS4 from PS+. Nevermind then, probably not worth it for me.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

Just upgraded my ONE to a ONE S thanks to Gamestop's deal this week, adding $50 to the trade in value. With a handful of crappy games and some other hardware I was able to trade up for about $50. Worth it just for the smaller size and getting rid of the power brick.

I had $20 in store credit that was about to expire, so I went ahead and bought that bundle. Maybe I'll actually play them soon so I won't feel completely gipped when they all go free eventually.

March's 2017 Games with Gold lineup for Xbox One includes: Layers of Fear and Evolve: Ultimate Edition. For Xbox 360 owners (and through Xbox One backward compatibility), March kicks off with Borderlands 2, followed by Heavy Weapon.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I am so pissed with myself. Rented a movie on my XBox One S a few weeks ago. Paid like $4 for it.

Was going to watch it, but totally got sidetracked and forgot about it. Apparently there was a really short window to watch it. I think it was 2 weeks. I sat down to look for it, and unfortunately it expired.

Dammit. Most movies have a 1 month window to watch it. 2 weeks is really short.

No, I did not play it.

I'm going to have to pay better attention to the expiration window next time.

If you do a quick chat or email them, they will be able to check and notice that you never started it and would probably give it to you again for free.

Hell yeah, I picked up AC Rogue when it was on clearance at Target for $6. I might actually bail on AC Syndicate and start playing that instead. I LOVED Black Flag.

Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted Microsoft today via chat and they gave me back my money as a 1-time courtesy for my error and I can re-rent the movie again if I wish.

Whew! Glad I didn't have to eat that money.

Rental windows are annoying. I try not to rent unless I'm ready to watch it right then, but sometimes there are deals.

Glad it worked out. Most of the larger companies are going to be more lenient in those cases because they don't want the customer to have a negative experience and take the chance of losing your business for good.

I had a funny similar situation about a year ago. I was at work and my email was blowing up with Amazon Instant Video rentals. There were like 8 rentals in a 15 minute period. I had no idea what was going on. So I buzzed them and after they verified that none of them had been started yet, they cleared them from my account and refunded me. I get home later that night and found out it was my 2 year old son and he got a hold of the Amazon Fire remote and had some fun . So I learned my lesson and put a password system in place.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I have questions related to online play/chat. We got an Xbox One for Christmas, but just recently setup a trial of Live so my son (12) can play online with his friends. He doesn't have a gaming headset, so the only way for him to talk to who he is playing with is to call him and be on the phone while they play. If we get him a headset, will be able to only talk to people on his friend list or would it be opened up more than that?

I don't play (obviously), so any other pointers/recommendations are appreciated. The console also auto-signs in with my account. I assume I should set him up with a child account, and have that auto-sign in? Do I then do XBox Live for that account, or do I keep it under my account?
