I wish the voice actress of Lara was stepping off the set of a porno.
Although it looks like seeing her on the set of Californication is nice too At least the rest of us can probably agree RocShemp is crazy about this Lara voice thing

Yes. Hence my comparison.
I've seen her before and find her pretty but that doesn't change the fact that I felt her line delivery in the game was for the most part hammy, forced, and unconvincing.

Phil Spencer sure likes to talk. Another day... another interview...
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...clusivity-deal
It's really long, but here are a few "key" tidbits:
Overall, the guy is just repeating himself over and over and over. I think most people get it. It's interesting that he confirms that this deal was made at least partially because he wants an "Uncharted" type game exclusive to XO. Why not invest in a new IP, then? This is something MS continues to struggle with, it seems.
Anyway, there it is. I think that's the most we'll ever get out of these guys. Like he said, in the end, it's a business, and the deals they made ARE confidential. I bet he wanted to end it with, "So, SUCK IT, NERDS!"

It's really long, but here are a few "key" tidbits:
they want to build that game up to the same level as any of the huge triple-A games out there. It used to a big dominant game. Crystal has done a great job in rebuilding it since '09, when they started kickstarting it, but continuing to invest at that level, it takes a partnership.
Now, obviously if I'm going to partner on it, I'm a platform holder, I'm hardly going to invest to go make the PlayStation version of any game. It is a business. So when we go invest with a partner on a big franchise, we're going to come with certain needs we have out of the relationship.
So, when people want me to say, well can you tell us when or if it's coming to other platforms, it's not my job. My job is not to talk about games I don't own. I have a certain relationship on this version of Tomb Raider, which we announced. And I feel really good about our long term relationship with Crystal and Square.
So when they came to us with the opportunity to do something, absolutely it was something we looked at hard and it worked out, and I'm glad it did.
I get the reaction I see. If I'm a PlayStation person I feel like, oh, all of a sudden the franchise is going. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine. Where this thing will go over time - just like Dead Rising or something else - we'll see where these things go. Just like Ryse. We'll see what happens with the games. I don't own every iteration of Tomb Raider.
[In response to, "Can you say how long the duration is?"] No. And it's not because I'm trying to be a headfake on anybody. It's a deal between us and the partner. People ask me, how much did we pay? There are certain things I'm just not going to talk about because it's a business deal between us and them.
I'm a big fan of Uncharted and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk. We've started some, and we've looked at them. But we don't have one today of that quality. This is an opportunity.
This whole thing that, like we just somehow found something that Sony fans love and said hey, if we just drop millions of dollars then they can't go play the game, that's not how it played out.
I'll just put it this way: other people could have done this deal. There was nothing about us that said, we were the only people would could do this deal. If another publisher, another platform wanted to go do this deal, it's a business deal. There's nothing we did somebody else could not have done.
Clearly, I'm not going to invest in something to make games great on other platforms. Windows stuff I will. But not on stuff on other consoles. That's 101. This wasn't an attack against anybody else. It was an opportunity that came up for us that fit really well.

Most interviews are just people repeating the same thing over and over. Not Phil's fault that every outlet asks him the same thing. At least he's giving the same answer repeatedly, unlike the Microsoft of a year ago where every interview would contradict the previous one.

I thought this discussion was pretty good. They seem pretty confident it's a short exclusivity period. I'm not so sure.

I wonder if the later release for the PS4 will allow them the time and opportunity to better fine tune that version and maybe add in some DLC as well, to make up for the later release. It's not like that sort of thing is unprecedented.

re: Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One now, PS4 on 10/11/16)
I think that's exactly what'll happen.
- XO/360 version comes out Holiday 2015 for $60
- a bunch of DLC comes out over the next 6-12 months
- "Definitive Edition" comes out on PS4/PS3, XO/360, and PC, at the same $60 price, including all previous DLC.
- PS4 version will be superior to XO because of megaflops and extra p's and DDR5 or whatever
- PC version will be superior to all because they are the master race.
- Wii U version comes out in 2018 because why not. Runs at 480p/120fps

I was never a fan of Jim Sterling, but his pompous schtick is now so over the top, it's obvious that it's an act. And also, I can't say I disagree with anything he says here (on the current trend of console exclusives, spring-boarding from TR):

14.9 million was what Square Enix expected to sell for TR. I think they said once it hit 8 mil. they turned a profit. Seeing as how most sequels have a bigger budget and the fact that XB1 has only sold 5 mil consoles how can you expect a profit for only one console? Even if every person that owns an Xbox buys a copy they wouldn't turn a profit. Maybe by the time of release it'll be up to 8 million but even that wouldn't turn a profit if the budget is bigger.

I especially like his point about how this doesn't add any value at all; X1 was gonna get TR either way - this exclusivity just excludes it from others. And I wish people would star thinking like gamers/customers and stop taking the sides of greedy multi-billion-dollar corporations, as they care more about pleasing their shareholders far more than their customers. (this goes for all sides)

I don't want to see the gaming industry sucked dry by those looking at it from purely a money standpoint and certain organizations out there see it solely for that. Rockstar's recent attitude towards their online operation of GTA and trying hard to push the shark cards they are trying to sell without putting much actual new content in the game is becoming a huge turnoff. Yes, I will likely get GTAV on the PS4 but only if they put out the promised content like heists and opening up things in the map. However, I will still not let them push me to buying shark cards despite their efforts to curb in-game money making as much as possible while making stuff expensive as hell.

The deal sucks, and though I own both systems and will very probably get TR at launch, a deal like this makes me feel less inclined to buy otherwise equal multiplatform games on the One though I went almost entirely with 360 for multiplatform games last gen.
I also sort of disagree with Jim lumping in tiny console-exclusive bonuses (like Batman challenge maps, the extra TLoU dungeon in Diablo III, or Watch_Dog's 60 extra minutes of whatever the Hell they included) with what MS did here with TR. The former gives a slight (slight) incentive to go with one version of a game, all other things being equal. The other prevents the other console owner from playing the game at all (at least for a while). Big difference in my book.

I think his point was that it's all symptomatic of larger issues: That developers are more than willing to shortchange consumers for payouts. Whether that shortchanging is minor or major is just a matter of degree.

Didn't watch the video. But if you want to blame someone, blame CD management, or publisher, or whatever. For the first game they expected to sell a lot, over several months, and I'm sure having it free in Plus helped a lot, but if even with that they didn't reach their numbers, then they are crazy.
Even if "evil" Microsoft is looking to snatch games, for a period of time, and I don't think that was the case here, CD had, HAS, full control of their decisions. If the only way they are profitable is if they sell out, for a period of time, to Microsoft, then the main issue is not "evil" Microsoft.
