re: Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One now, PS4 on 10/11/16)
Finished this up last night with 100% completion. Fantastic game however I think the story suffered from how dense the game is. There's just too much to do and have fun with to ever give a shit about the story. NPC X is dying? Yeah I'll worry about that later, I have some chickens to round up into a pen.
New abilities and things to do were fantastic. Again, leveling guns is useless to me as I stuck with the Bow 95% of the time. So I was glad there weren't any egregious achievements tied to the weapons. I will say I missed the 'arrow pull' ability from the first game where you could shoot an enemy with a rope arrow and then yank them off a ledge.
I also didn't realize until the last boss fight that the game had 0 QTE's up until that point. It caught me off guard. Looking back, it's pretty impressive they didn't have to rely on any of that nonsense. Crystal Dynamics is growing up right in front of our eyes.
That leaves some achievement hunting to do for the Expedition mode. Not sure if I'll mess with those or not.

I bought the Baba Yaga DLC tonight and played through it. It's decent, a fun couple of hours and I liked how they weaved in the mythology of that character in to the game. The puzzles felt a bit more challenging then any of the ones in the game, and the boss fight isn't bad. Not sure if it's worth $10, but it's not too bad for anyone that wants some more single player action. I still have a couple more documents to hunt for in the new area.

For comparisons sake, the last DLC for Witcher was $10, and I got a solid 20 hours out of it. Other publishers should take note.

I'd rather publishers take note about putting out quality DLC not hitting some arbitrary amount of game time.

I don't like getting stuck on judging the value of a game or it's DLC just by hours per dollar, especially when comparing different genres. Especially as someone that no longer likes spending 40+ hours on an RPG and likes a tight single player story more these days. In that case, what Witcher may offer is irrelevant to me.
My comments about this add on are less about hours played, but more about the overall quality and fun. It's not amazing or a must play in terms of Lara's story and character, but more about fans of the game looking for more to do and another area to explore.

I liked the Shadow of Mordor extra content. It added some new powers that were pretty interesting to play with.

Target has this 35% off with their Cartwheel app. Not a bad deal and I don't have it yet so I might pick it up.

They don't have a specific date just yet, but they're saying that this should be out on PS4 this "holiday" 2016, probably exactly a year to the date it came out on X1. Pretty sure it'll include DLC - the big question is if it'll be full price or $50, and if it'll have any improvements or whatnot.

I'm not sure I understand the point of the whole "timed exclusive" if waiting 11 months for the other version gives you all this extra content for the same price. It makes it feel like a lot less of an advantage to have had the "opportunity" to buy it early. And I think I'm in the minority here, but I ended up disappointed in the game overall. The amount of plant collecting/ crate breaking was beyond ridiculous, all for an upgrade system that seemed pretty unnoticeable to me as far as having any real impact on gameplay. I also felt like a couple of the puzzles were just more confusing and nonsensical rather than challenging, but maybe that was just my own weakness in solving them. Regardless, by the game's end, I was just finishing it out of a weird sense of obligation. I was really ready to be done with it, like finishing busywork in school. As a point of comparison (for what it's worth), I played Inside right after this, which I found to be immensely more engaging, immersive, and rewarding, despite being a far shorter and simpler game.

I get the concept of a timed exclusive, primarily that if it's an anticipated title it could push people to buy hardware they don't own.
That said, I found it slightly disappointing as well. The Tomb Raider reboot was one of my favorite games (if not my favorite game) of last gen.

I absolutely loved the game, and thought it was one of my favorites of the year. I'll probably buy the new DLC for XBox One.

Hell, I still need to play my copy. (I did get it for free, though, so )
I wonder how many of the people who said they'd NEVER buy it on any platform ever (because of the existence of the exclusivity deal) will actually go out and pick it up on PS4 now.

Barely played it on XBONE. Will gladly douple dip on this one though, just like I did with the first game.

Not sure I liked the game enough to rebuy at full retail. Maybe when it hits $20.

I won't pick it up on day one, but I'll grab the artbook version when it's on sale to go along with my PS4 TR copy. I really enjoyed it the first time through, but the glitches hurt my experience. Hopefully everything goes smoother next time.

I wonder how much better the PS4 version will perform than the X1 version, if at all, since they had an extra year on it (assuming they've been working on it just as long).

I thought it ran pretty damn good on XB1, so I wouldn't expect too many improvements. I'm more interested in all of the extras that they are cramming inside this version. I'm sure the VR mode will help sell a couple extra copies too.

I found the game to be pretty ho-hum.
Maybe the hype set my expectations too high.
Top gripe: Pull the trigger to aim, and it always starts up to the right - even if the target is down, and to the left.
