You can get some PS4 versions cheaper, but you have to pay extra to upgrade from the PS4 to PS5 version for newer games like God of War Ragnarök.

We don't have the PS5, just the PS4 (although that $500 PS5 bundle with Spider-Man 2 is VERY tempting) so i have two questions:

But that game isn't for PS4, too, right?

Are these physical discs or digital copies?

Jedi Survivor is for PS5. PlayStation direct is for physical games. The PlayStation digital store has digital games on sale now. Some are a little cheaper or a little more expensive than physical.

Yeah, wow, $500 for a disc PS5 amd controllers at $50. This may be the year we go for it. Anything else people get with it to set it up. Is it still necessary to upgrade the SSD before setup?

if you find an inexpensive but compatible SSD, go for it, but I’d say hold off. You shouldn’t need one for awhile.

The SSD is small, but you can have a decent amount ofgames on it depending on file size. Some games are over 100 GB. Some are 5GB. You can always upgrade it later.

All true, though I remember how convenient it was to put in a new SSD right at setup for the PS4.

There are some 4TB SSD at my local Micro Center on sale this week for under $200 each.

Good deal overall, but wow, a console, 3 extra controllers (we do a lot of multiplayer), an SSD, and a few games, even with all of those on sale, adds up to nearly $1000. We may go for it, but wow, it's a reminder why we didn't go for this yet!

If you plan on three extra controllers, I would recommend the controller charging stand, for two at a time charging. Maybe even two in your case.

That's a great deal, but again, make sure it's compatible. Last thing you want is to buy one and find out it doesn't meet the PS5 minimum spec for data speed;
If it doesn't meet that, the PS5 will reject it.

edit: looks like the Crucial 4TB may be the way to go! At $179, that's ridiculously good.

edit2: ehh... maybe not? The sequential read speed is lower than what PCMag said the spec was. hmm... otherwise, it seems like it should work.
edit3: all gen4 drives should be fine, even if the speed is a tiny bit lower. I say go for it!

Just to chime in, you don't really want to replace the existing SSD in the PS5, you'll want to buy an M.2 NVMe SSD (as described above) to put into the extra slot. That may be obvious but it is nothing like the PS4 so I just want to make sure.

Ah, thank you. Hence, why people are saying you can wait and install it later. Thank you. I really haven't looked at any of this since the whole thing has been out of our price range until potentially now.

The other thing is, you can also use an external non-SSD drive (like if you have a PS4 one that you're using) on the PS5, but you can only play PS4 games from there (you can also store PS5 games on there but not play them, to play them you have to move them back to one of the internal drives). But this does help mitigate the need for extra storage early on if you're playing mainly backward compatible games.

Yeah I saw some people say that they got 20% off extending their sub through the app without upgrading but I don't see it on mine... maybe you have to be closet to expiring (mine doesn't until March)

But as predicted these sale prices are basically what the sub used to be before the recent price hike.
