We got just a regular Netgear router about a year or so ago and setup was simple as could be, and we have about a dozen things connected wireless. I wouldn't think the Nighthawk would be that much different.

Maybe I'll take it back. They were trying to tell me it's too close to the router. Like that would make it go so slow.
Part of me is just like "It works now so leave it alone", but then again for $170, it should work as advertised.

It's not. Not at all. I even went back to Costco and bought a second one -- that one wouldn't even connect to the internet. Anyway, after an hour and a half with CS on the phone, I went back to the original one and restored the original settings. I get over 60Mbps with an iPad on the 2.4 network and I get 1.4Mbps (or less) with the PS4. They have no idea why but think it's the PS4's fault. I have no idea why the old one worked perfectly and this much better router stinks. Still, if I drill another hole in the side of my cabinet to run the ethernet cable to the router, I can get everything working okay. It sucks because my router should work a lot better than this, but what else can I do?

I've experienced this before with different routers models/chipsets. Some devices work great while others will barely hold a connection. No real rhyme or reason.

Fwiw, ive had no issue with my TP-Link Archer C9 thus far.

Kind of funny that the PS4 Slim is already being reviewed. Not that it's much of a review.

I was really hoping that the Neo was going to be the mid-cycle refresh PS4, if only the keep the price point the same. I didn't really want to see the Slim model unless it's significantly cheaper.

There was no chance of that ever happening. The Neo and Scorpio will be close in specs and price.

I'm signed up for Plus until May 2021. Since its a $20 increase here in Canada, I was wondering if I should renew it for longer before the price increase. Any thoughts?

I'd hold tight. I renewed so many times, through 2020 a few years ago, that the system stopped registering and I have a year of renewal that hasn't kicked in and won't until my current subscription "expires" in 2019 (IF I'm lucky).

I'd wait on stacking any more so you don't get stuck with unrecognized renewals like I am.

PSN down again. A big thanks to all the developers who make games that can't even start up without checking into psn for terms and services or whatever.

Found a teardown of the slim. Jeez. There is virtually no extra space.

I'm still not sure what's the big del with a "Slim" PS4....it's not like the current one is some beast looking PC Tower eye-sore taking up half-the-space on a shelf or stand. I'd be asking "what about cooling and air flow?".

They don't release slim versions of consoles because people complained about their size. They release them because usually 3-4 years after launch of a system they are able to make them cheaper and smaller then the original which saves them money. That's why whenever a company releases a slim console they don't keep producing the bigger one.

Slim models typically run cooler due to smaller and more energy efficient chips. This means they also usually run quieter. With this slim, airflow could be an issue as there is just very little room for anything in that box. But that's just from a cursory look at it, and I'm sure Sony left enough space for airflow.

From personal experience, I've never owned a normal and slim model of any console, but I did own 2 slim PS3s. Even during a model run Sony tends to make improvements or changes. I bought one at launch (of the slim) in 2009, and one in 2012 (just before the superslim) after the laser in the first one died. I later replaced the laser and the older one still works just fine, but it runs hotter and overheated more often than the newer one does.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

They said that all PS4 consoles will get a firmware update for HDR, but they didn't say UHD/4K.

Does that even make sense?

HDR without 4K? I'm confused.
