I read that 1.0's characters are compatible with 2.0 however is this only for Toybox mode since you can only play in Playset mode with that specific character's playset (Ralph in Candyland, Mater in Radiator Springs or something like that)? Is there a compelling reason to buy 1.0 over 2.0? Can 2.0 work on 1.0's hardware?
No

That's been my experience with *all* games that include "toybox" modes/tools. Even those purported to be able to create stand-alone games were rough around the edges. They can be quite fun and teach you a few things but they are always lacking. I've often theorized that this is done intentionally because if the "create your own game/level" functions were *really* good you'd have no reason to purchase another game as you could just create your own.

Thanks! Apparently he plays Xbox at the grandparents, so he is a pro with the controller now lol. Thank you.

I've seen these all over in every store - yet when I attempted to purchase with in-store pickup it said no stores had it and I was forced to have it shipped to a store.

well I will be damned. I didn't know the Disney Infinity game included Marvel Heroes??? It will be another year before my son can handle a game with a controller, but I will probably skip on Skylanders....he and I love our superheroes.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker

So this game series has just come on my radar. I ave a step daughter who loves Minecraft and Disney and this looks like a good combo. However, i am hesitant to buy this game for her because i am still not clear on how this game works. Do i need to buy the toys in order to have the characters available as download content for the game? Or can i pay for the characters only online and not have to buy the game? Can someone please clarify for me.

You have to have the character to be able to use it in game.

And that turns out to be about a 12-15 dollar unlock per character. You do get a nice figurine to go with it.

The toys have a chip that is activated when you place it on the hub, no downloading required.

So do you need to have the toy on the hub to play that character in the game at the time you are playing, or do you place the toy just once and the data transfer is then done and no need for the toy to be used for the game again?

The toy stays on the portal to play the game.

Toy on, character on. Toy off, character off. Yep, you have to have the figure on the portal when you want to use it. However, the little chip does remember your leveling.

It's up at Amazon now, at a hefty $179.00. That's about $50 for the base, I'll pass.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker

So, as of now we have the base game with what I am assuming will be one main game and two other optional playsets: Spider-man and Guardians of the Galaxy? Have there been any other actual playsets announced? The rest of the ever growing list of Disney dump characters will be relegated to the not so fun in my opinion Toy Box. I do have this pre-ordered on the PS4 as we will get the set and a free figure with GCU for about 60 plus tax. However, I am a bit concerned that they are biting off a whole bunch without delivering enough content to make the purchase of all of the various figures worth it. The Toy Box better be much improved from the first iteration if they want me to buy all of the extra figures.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker

So for an extra $100 you basically get 3 extra figures and a stand with a monster as background. Doesn't seem like great value for the extra $100. I might end up buying the Standard Edition for my Step daughter. Its her birthday in October, so could be a good present. She has actually been bugging me about buying this for her, but i have told her to wait for the next edition to be released as it will be better.

By the way, could we play two player co-op on this? I think a lot of her time will be spent designing levels though. Would i need to buy extra things online for her in order to build levels? I am still trying to get the gist of what comes with this game. I don't want to get sucked into a massive money grabbing machine. I don't mind paying for the odd new figure or two now and again, but if i have to end up paying for tonnes of stuff online i will be a little pissed off.

how old is she
for most kids the toybox isn't very intuitive for building .... wasn't very fun for me and I'm in my 40's

you won't have to buy anything online .... discs you put on the base do unlock items that can be placed in the worlds but they are not necessary as there are plenty of tools items available for creating with or that can be unlocked
