Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

So the DLC is super short. Less than 2 hours to get all 90gs easy if you're at level 50.

I'd say the price difference between the season pass and the individual purchases ($7.50 vs $10) is a dealbreaker because $7.50 is pushing it.

You basically get like 3 yellow "main" missions, periodic optional blue missions that are members of your squad (some dead, some alive) and then there are 29 collectibles on the map (cameras that need to be hacked) and you need to hit up all 8 safe zones to "infect" them which is pretty much a further 8 collectibles. All clearly marked on the map.

I didn't even die once but that's nothing new as anyone who hits level 50 knows.

When it's all done you have a new tank and around 6 new military-style weapons available in the main game including a shotgun/chainsaw combo weapon called The Beast.

If you like the game it's just more Dead Rising 3 to play. That's about as much as you can say about it.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

Hi. Sorry if this was covered before, but I just started playing this and I'm having MAJOR graphical issues. I get huge chunks of the screen covered with intermittent giant pixilated black blotches that can obscure half the screen. It started when I went into the tunnel at the beginning of the game. I have no idea what is causing it, but assume it can't be intentional. It makes the game almost unplayable. Any idea what that is or how to fix it?

1st thing I'd try would be closing the game and relaunching. You can do this by pressing start on the dashboard while the game (or any other app that is acting wonky) is selected. Then run the freshly-booted game.

Option 2 for me would be doing a hard reset/power-down of the console itself.

Option 3 would be re-installing the whole game. I've suggested this to two people who have had catastrophic post-patch glitches and it worked for both.

After that you pretty much wanna consider that your console is fucked. But I doubt that's the case.

Thanks. It seems to be a problem processing light bloom, like off a light or when stepping out into the sun. Where there should be an increased intensity of light, instead there's a big black blur.

I may just try the delete and re-install. It looks like something got screwed up with the textures or something to my untrained eye.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

DLC episode 2 launched today.

Nothing groundbreaking yet again. More missions. New weapons. New collectibles. No new vehicle this time but there were literally 3-4x as many collectibles as the last one.

If you go for all 90gs it lasts about twice as long as the last one. Still less than four hours for me. And again, no challenge at level 50.

I have the season pass so I'm in for all 4 but most people probably already have unplayed missions, unused weapons and missing collectibles so the appeal is pretty limited.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

Wow, DLC 3 has launched and nobody has posted in the two weeks since the last one.

Took me about 3 hours, so halfway between episodes 1 and 2. More of the same, though just like "The Lost and Damned" there's something about playing as a biker that makes a game feel more fun even when the other episodes offer the same gameplay.

It does have, however, the most tedious mission in all of DR3: collecting motorcycles for a character. If you think the collectibles are bad (and yes, this one has whiskey bottles and telephones as collectibles) wait until you have to have ten (?) strewn about that you have to return to the same point on the map.

So 3/4s into this DLC I have to say that there's absolutely no way these things are worth any more than the 75% Season Pass price. When the pass is 50% off at $15 it'll be a steal.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

I love this game and went back to play through it again just last week, along with mopping up all the collectibles and blueprints. I want the DLC, but out of principle I'm not paying $30 for a season pass.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

I just started playing this the other night and have started Chapter 1. I found a hotel room with a blueprint inside but the door is locked... are these types of areas accessible later or do I need to get further in the game and then replay the level? Are locked doors able to be opened by found keys?

Any other advice for a DR newb -- such as what areas should I focus on leveling up? What are quick ways to level up?

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

The locked doors will be opened through either the main story missions or sidequests. Occasionally you will get a key to a locked door as a sidequest reward, but more often NPCs in sidequests will open them for you. You won't need to "replay" anything though, since the whole world is open to you throughout the entire game.

Quickest way to level up, besides completing missions, is to create combo weapons and use them to kill a lot of zombies while your multiplier continues to increase.

You'll have enough points to max out every skill eventually, so the question of which to focus on first is purely a personal preference, although health and inventory space is obviously helpful.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

Is this game known to be glitchy? I did the "bring 3 paint cans to Ashley" mission and despite me trying to talk to her to complete the objective, my character just won't "talk" to her.

Easiest way to level up is to put your points into the Smarts category. This allows you to earn more PP for each kill and for your different activities.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

My advice:

Don't grind to level up. It's not necessary.

Just play the game. Do the optional missions, pick up all the collectibles and try to complete the PP trials. Only a few require grinding. You'll hit level 50 long before the final mission.

I don't doubt the above advice about front-loading the smarts attribute but I don't know how much it really affects things. I pretty much leveled up evenly across all the categories and I tended to use the points for stuff that had to do with health, weapons and vehicles and I still leveled up extremely quickly.

Thanks guys. I got by the biker gang leader this morning... It was a grind but I did manage to get past him in my first attempt.

I'm really enjoying this game... it certainly has some flaws but overall it's a ton of fun.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

I don't know if it's me, but I'm kind of bored with this game. I just started playing, but I think my "grinding" and "collecting" obsession is hampering my enjoyment of the game. I like to just explore open worlds like this, find all the items, level up a lot, but between a lot of stuff being locked, and the constant breaking of weapons I find the game very repetitive so far. I beat the biker guy. Should I just focus on missions to really enjoy the game?

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

I focused on the main storyline and once I found the most damaging weapons I just loaded up on them instead of using the more ridiculous ones. I have no desire to replay this with all the quality games out right now.

Try and do a 70% story and 30% exploring on your first go through. This will enable to level up a decent amount and be strong enough for the end of the story as well. There is so much more story to go and the twists/reveals, etc were pretty good I thought. Mind you I did play the 1st 2 games which it sounds like you did not.

I played a little of the first two, but I hated the countdown aspect of it. That's why I was hoping I would have more fun with this one.

Coming to PC this summer.

<iframe width="530" height="298" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/t_uAhB3nHHw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Was hoping when they originally announced that it wasn't coming to pc, that it was just a timed exclusive. I've been playing DR2: OTR just recently.

Re: Dead Rising 3 (XB1) - November 2013

I probably played the first DR for like 10 minutes before turning it off and vowed to never play it. When my nephew get the XBOXONE and DR3 I was ready to do a 3 game run of the series but after reading both DR 1 & DR 2 threads , it reminded me that hell no I don't wanna ever play this series. But I saw my nephew play DR3 [he's never played the previous] and seeing for the better the game was changed.

Anyway this past week I went through DEAD RISING 3 and all 4 DLC... fuck I had so much fun, no frustration at all. One of my favorites on the system [along with Wolfenstein and now DIABLO III, another game I never gave a fuck about but changes do make it better... anyway that's another thread]. All those damn zombies and killing them with many combo weapons and Vehicles was . I hope they make another one!

Now I'm thinking about playing DR 1 & 2... don't know, don't want to ruin my excitement after playing DR3...

I am finally thinking about picking this up..does anyone know if the apocalypse version is already patched with that huge 13 gig update? Trying to keep my cap under control.
