Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)
News that should be completely unsurprising...
DICE on BF4: "We need to compromise in some places" on PS4 & Xbox One"

DICE on BF4: "We need to compromise in some places" on PS4 & Xbox One"
The PC version of Battlefield 4 will look better than the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, executive producer Patrick Bach has suggested, telling VideoGamer.com that DICE is "doing as much as [it] can" with the next-gen versions, "but we need to compromise in some places".
Discussing the differences between the PC and next-gen versions of Battlefield 4, Bach said that "from a CPU/GPU perspective, no, [PS4 & Xbox One cannot match PC]."PC will always be... You can just add more to a PC. There's always more. The game supports to a big extent better hardware, but not completely, so it won't be night and day."
"Of course I do. I want PCs to be twice as fast as well. I think [PS4 & Xbox One] will do what they are supposed to do. They will move console gaming farther. It will take console gaming into a new generation. Then the question is, could they have done more? Yes. Would it cost the same? No. It would be twice the price. Would that be a reasonable thing to sell to consumers? Probably not.

Not surprising at all. You will simply not be able to match in a small $400 console box the power contained in a full tower, $2,500 gaming rig. The optimization gains on consoles can't bridge that gap.
Still, the difference from the PC version to next gen consoles will be minimal, I'm sure. Nothing like what we saw with BF3, which looked and performed terribly on consoles compared to PC.
Makes me want to upgrade my 2 year old rig though. I don't know if the SLI 570s will cut it, but I hope the 2600k is still a good enough CPU.

It's probaby just me, but it bugs the shit out of me when people talk about "the PC" like it's a singular thing rather than thousands of different variations of a thing. When they say "the PC", they are really talking about the potential of a very very expensive rig. I think you'd be very very hard pressed to build a PC that would outperform the upcoming consoles for anywhere near their $400-$500 asking price, and that's not even taking proper gaming monitors and peripherals into account.
As for BF4 on PS4 and X1, I think we'll get a very good version of the game and will be happy with the final product.

Gamescom 2013: Hands on with Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4
http://www.lazygamer.net/24/gamescom...-playstation-4
BF4 on both next gen consoles will be great, assuming the game itself is solid.
Incidentally, Scott Lowe, the IGN guy who wrote the other "PS4 is lacking" article is now on twitter repeating the MS talking point about Sony never showing anything on actual PS4 hardware.
I'm not saying he has no credibility, I'm just saying.
Much has been said about the PS4 graphics in Battlefield 4 being disappointing but I didn’t have that experience. I found them to be a huge improvement over the PS3 graphics and while everything can always be improved I don’t think gamers are going to be disappointed.
Last but definitely not least the PlayStation 4 controller is a huge leaping improvement over the current PS3 controller. I have made a lot of noise about my hatred for the DualShock 3 and when chatting to fellow journalists at Gamescom it became abundantly clear that I am not in the minority. Thankfully Sony has rectified that and the new controller is now easily as good as the Xbox One controller, if not better.
I’ll need a lot more time on both consoles before I can pick a winner and that says all you need to know really. They are both fantastic.
I can’t wait for the PS4 to release and Battlefield 4 will be one of the first titles I will be grabbing for it. I can’t wait to enter the Battlefield again. With TitanFall and Battlefield 4 in their stable EA Games is set for an incredible start to the next generation.
Oh one more thing… Battlefield 4 will allow for 64 player on next generation consoles – and it will still run at 60 fps.

And seriously, if this is wrong, I don't want to be right:

Some kind of capture the flag mode...interesting.

Besides all of the returning game modes, there are 2 new modes included as well: Obliteration and Defuse.
In Obliteration, two teams go head-to-head on medium-sized maps, where a neutral bomb spawns randomly in a centralized area of the map. The objective is to grab the bomb and arm one of the enemy’s three bomb sites.
Defuse is bit more squad-based, where players don’t have respawns or vehicles and the objective being to eliminate the other team.

You guys have to watch this video from Jack Frags. Tons of details. Also addresses the graphics on the PS4 version after the 9:30. Apparently you use the DS4 gyro to peek around corners.

Yeah, it looks more open, which is a very good thing after BF3. It kind of reminds me of Operation Hastings, which was the only BC2 Vietnam map that I cared for.
If it weren't for Planetside 2, I would have already preordered. Game is looking phenomenal.

For my Xboner brethren: Major Nelson says X1 version will be playable at PAX Prime...first time anywhere AFAIK.

Mod note: please refrain from terminology such as "Xboner". This adds nothing to the discourse.

That multiplayer video looks like a BF3 expansion pack which, to me, is both good and not-so-good. I really can't see any big differences between this and BF3. What am I missing?

Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)
BF3 had a bunch of samey middle-east looking maps, many of which were straight lines...some were actual tunnels even. That map looks much more open and much more lush.
The other thing that stunk about BF3 is that it didn't leverage destruction to change gameplay, and this one seems to do a lot more of that as well.
I think I'm probably in, depending on what happens with Planetside 2.

The game was playable on XO developer kits at GameStop Expo yesterday. Same goes for the rest of the games EA brought with them. Considering the line just to play a match was over 90+ minutes long, not a lot of people got to experience it.

I switched my BF4 preorder to Dead Rising 3 today. I re-visited BF3 last night for a bit and still didn't care for it. I also figured I won't really know anyone online at launch on the X1, and this game is useless without a squad of friends. I'll probably pick it up early next year when more of my friends can switch over to next gen.

Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)
I'm as big a fan of BF3 as there is, and to me this looks like more of the same... plus boats. I'm certainly excited for it and it will be a day 1 purchase for me, but I'm not seeing anything so drastically different from the stuff that turned so many people here off from BF3. It still has the gritty realism, the guns look like they have just as much recoil (with even MORE attachments to alter their handling), the dogtag animation is the same (plus there seems to be a new counter move to prevent you from taking them), and there's just as much distracting lighting effects and crap flying all over the screen (maybe even more now with the new Frostbite 3 engine).
I really hope this game does well and brings in a few more fans (or brings back fans they lost with BF3), but I'm sure I'll be playing the hell out of it regardless. BF3 outsold almost all of the previous Battlefield titles combined, so I don't see them swaying too far from that with this one.

My 3 year old laptop beats the minimum requirements, my new Desktop doesn't quite hit the recommended.
