how do you think Bad Company 2 and BF3 played differently? I've played the heck out of both and find them equally fun to play.

Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)

In my opinion, I regret not purchasing BF3 on PC and getting the 360 version instead at launch. I played BC2 on the PC and I just preferred the fact it forced people to play as a team and the destructible environments.

Yes, I get that BF3 had destructible environments, but it wasn't to the level of insanity that BC2 was.

I'm still on the fence about which platform I'm picking up BF4 on. I like that I'll have three platforms that'll be able to play 60-player multiplayer on, but I just need to figure where my friends will be playing it on (as they don't know yet either).

Pretty much this:

Along with the destruction, I also preferred the maps (more variety, routes and options), the guns (less recoil) and the graphics (preferred the more "painted" look). I also liked the dogtag mechanic and the lack of blinding lights.

BF3 was objectively a good game and was technically impressive, but it couldn't hold a candle to BC2 for fun factor.

BFBC2 was infinitely better than BF3. I was extremely disappointed and traded it in within a week of release day. That said, I will be giving BF4 a try on the X1 and hoping they got their shit back together.

Given the relative sales between BC2 and BF3, I'm not optimistic at all. They probably think they are on the right track turning themselves into CoD, and from a business standpoint, they're probably right.

Doesn't mean we have to like it though.

I don't see how BF3 was any more COD than the previous BF games on the PC - BF1942, BF2, BF2142, etc.

BC2 is the one that was different from the normal BF games.

Yeah. BF3 is an entirely different game than CoD. The only similarities are they involve the military and are FPS.

Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)

It felt to me like there was more of an emphasis on small maps (Metro, Damavand, Bazaar), and the game seemed a bit more like a grindy shootout than the deep teamwork and strategy that I was accustomed to. It did have some traditional maps, but even they had balance issues for the most part.

I'm not saying it was exactly like CoD or anything, but it felt to me like they headed a bit in that direction. I only had the original maps and Karkland, so that may have colored my view a bit, but I completely abandoned them when they launched Close Quarters (?), which was the exact opposite of what I wanted.

Ditto the single player campaign, which had none of the charm from BC or BC2.

I loved Close Quarters. It was instant action. I didn't have to hop in a tank, drive for 5 minutes then instantly get killed by the first level 100 person I run into.

I didn't buy it, but everything I saw looked like CoD. I get the appeal of that, but it isn't Battlefield.

That's Battlefield...big scale...vehicles...teamwork. Lone wolves are cannon-fodder, but I do love when they bring me tanks.

Do you generally play with a squad?

I typically play with a squad. I just find playing with randoms difficult to get in a groove. You get the sniper who is too far away to be effective. Or the other teammates who don't want to go after the objectives and just play for kills.

I will leave a squad the second I see this.

A sniper in a Conquest map is almost completely worthless and even worse, they give you one less worthwhile place to spawn. Even if I see more than a few blueberries who aren't contributing, I'm out. I might drop in and out of a few lobbies before I find a functional team, but if you're going to play with randoms, that's what you have to do.

Better advice is to send friend invites to the players you meet who are worth playing with. I have a group of 15-20 "Battlefield friends", and a couple of them are always on.

But you can't lone wolf it in Battlefield...or at least most can't. It just isn't that kind of game.

If I could figure out how to embed youtube videos properly, I'd post this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_xaIv7Wo1A

it got me pretty excited for multiplayer.

GOD. DAMN. IT.

They are going to get me again, aren't they?

I'm going to get excited for this because they brought back proper destruction and dogtags, and it's still not going to measure up to Bad Company 2.

That is just jawdropping...have to post bigger version...click that 1080P fellas:

I was all set to ignore this after BF3. Thanks for that, chess. Looks like I might as well just place a pre-order as well.

sigh.

Happy to be of ASSistance Flip!

For what it's worth, I'm hearing that the next gen console versions aren't quite up to par with PC yet, but they still have about 2 months to optimise.

I won't preorder it, but after it comes out, if I hear one person I trust say that it feels a little more like Bad Company 2 than BF3 did, I am in.

Re: Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PC, who knows what else; Fall 2013)

I agree with Chess for the most part. BC2 was a great game, and probably better than 3. The fully destructible environs, resulting in more dynamic gameplay, are the biggest reason. The maps also felt more "open" in general. Also, I feel the more limited weapon/class options in BC2 streamlined the experience for the better.

That said, I don't know how much my lack of enjoyment wrt/ BF3 is just fatigue from the series, which I've played to death since 1942.

BF4 is looking good, I have little doubt I will buy it.

You realize that all you need to do is select the resolution and switch to full screen, right? There's no need to post a "bigger" version of the video.
