Re: Blizzard Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft CCG
The first two wings of Naxxramas (Arachnid and Plague) are worth it. Haunted Creeper, Nerubian Egg, and Sludge Belcher are all great cards that appear in a wide variety of decks, and Loatheb is the best legendary card in the expansion. There are some other really solid cards spread out among the other wings, but it just depends on what class you prefer to play. If you go for Blackrock Mountain, the first wing (Blackrock Depths) is probably the best, because it has Grim Patron and Emperor Thaurissan, two of the best cards in that expansion.

Better value to buy the whole expansion of course, but again, it depends on which cards you think you'll actually use. The other thing is, you can buy the individual wings with in-game gold instead of real money.

If you get up to level 10 with each class, which is pretty easy and can be accomplished in Practice mode, you'll have all the basic class cards. After that, when you get to higher levels with a class, you'll periodically be given golden versions of some of the same class cards you already have. Unfortunately, you can't disenchant those golden versions for extra dust.
If you get 500 wins with a particular class, you unlock a golden version of that hero, which shows up when you're playing (basically just gold trim on the framing around your hero).

Does anyone still play Hearthstone? I just recently discovered it, and being a fan of card games, am really digging it. I've been unable to get above level 16 in ranked mode, anyone have some tips?

Yeah, I still play, though I don't get a chance to play more than a handful of games each week. I love the game, but it is (and always has been, since its official release) utterly brutal for newcomers. It just keeps getting worse, as far as ranked play. I've been down around rank 20 (after a new season starts) and ended up playing a majority of matches against players with golden class heroes (500 wins with that class), which is ridiculous.
At least they've done a few things to help newer players. The tavern brawls are great for picking up card packs, they've added a little more variety to the quests so they don't all involve winning, and the occasional "you can complete quests with friends" is an easy way to play against a second "ghost" account and complete quests.
The problem for newer players is the utter necessity of multiple legendary cards to make the most powerful decks. N'Zoth, Yogg-Saron, plus a bunch of legendaries to make them work. The only really good options for newer players are zoo warlock and maybe mid-range hunter (but you need Call of the Wild x 2, and that's an epic).
C'thun warrior is still good, if you can scrape together enough other cards to make it work. I've used it quite a bit, but still don't have Twin Emperor, and it shows when you play against people who have ALL the cards.

And to more directly answer your question: the biggest tip is probably just "play a lot." You'll see this if you watch "pros" streaming on Twitch. Very often they'll spend hours just to rank up one level at the harder ranks. But if you can manage to play a ton of games and keep your winrate over 50 percent, you'll eventually reach legend. Technically, you can rank up with a lower than 50 percent winrate depending on whether or not you get win streaks... so maybe that's one tip: if you're on a winning streak, keep going until you lose, because you're probably at an advantage at that moment based on whatever factors are at play (decks people are playing, skill level of the people playing right then).
