But, hey, we can all totally trust Microsoft. Microsoft would never screw us. Nothing ever gets hacked. Nobody ever lies. The government is never spying on us.
So I'll just leave it plugged in 24/7 and trust.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
The more I think about it, the more I think more games will also be available on Win8 due to their platform unification across console, pc, tablet, and phone. I'm fine with a pc for the first few years until the X1 proves itself and there's some gap between them that I just have to play.
The only thing that's unified is the Metro component, which is WinRT in mobile devices. I doubt that developers will produce "hardcore" games for that environment as it would limit their audience to those with Windows 8 (which hasn't been received very well so far), and they wouldn't run well on mobile devices anyway. The vast majority of PC gamers are still on Windows 7 or earlier, so they should produce games for the desktop component for some time. Heck, many new games still support DirectX 9 (and thus XP), and it's been 6 years since Vista launched with DirectX 10.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I expect Halo 5 to run on a smartphone, I only meant that the X1 will be more like a Win8-PC than ever before, so it makes sense. I merely mentioned the tablet and mobile as a stream-of-consciousness L&F unification.

I look it this way...prior to all this latest news of spying and data mining Xbox One was being touted more along the lines of "All-In-One" console...to extend possibilites of communicating, keep in touch, and entertainment besides gaming. All this generated some...wow...that sounds cool...from the public.
But that was then, and now with some latest reports some are concerned and worried. Take look at this report from the Huffington Post back on Febuary 2011 about Tech Giants Meet With Obama
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_824358.html
The fact that the major tech giants of Google, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo, Amazon and MS are big supporters of Obama and now all this spying and data mining has come to light especially MS ties to NSA. And how convenient that Kinect is now included in every Xbox One and have a connection once every 24hrs. If it's no big deal, you can have it off or what ever then why not optional package of buying a Xbox One with or without Kinect?

They do seem to be collecting data on everyone. "But we only look at the stuff we get about terrorists. We collect your data, but we never look at it. We double-dog-pinkie-swear."
And even if we could trust our government not to misuse our data...they haven't seemed to be able to protect highly classified weapon secrets from being stolen right and left. Why would we assume that they can protect this stuff?

Wait until the government asks, actually tries to strong arm you into filling out the American Community Survey. The amount of data they would garner from this next gen console is miniscule compared to what this survey wants you to divulge.

The American Community Survey sucks, but doesn't seem to be Microsoft's fault.
The fact of a camera/microphone sitting in my bedroom 24/7 is simply spooky. The way things are set up here, getting to the plugs every day would be a hardship. Easier, by far, to never buy the damn thing. And Microsoft can't charge me with a crime for refusing.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection
I'm just hoping for a price and release date tomorrow so I can go pre-order it. Apparently Gamestop was informed to prepare for "staying open late Monday or early on Tuesday" for something. I'm guessing system pre-orders? There's no way they will pull an Apple and drop the system this week...with 0 games.

Yeah the staying open late thing seems dumb, but opening an hour early on Tuesday seems plausible...I know I would go do it.

At the risk of sounding stupid, you guys realize "input one" refers to your tv/receiver, right? The point is that the Xbox does everything so everything goes into "input one".

Then again my receiver has custom named inputs, so my inputs are simply called whatever the source itself is.
