Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Played for an hour or two, already sick of how dark and bland the entire game looks Could have been much more fun with some daytime areas etc, so I can actually see stuff! Other than that, pretty fun but maybe should have been $10 instead of $15.

That was my biggest problem playing the trial, I couldn't see anything. Looks like a fun(ny) game but was a struggle for me being lost in the dark.

So it should have been cheaper because the nuclear apocalypse isn't sunny enough...

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I downloaded the trial last night and gave it a whirl. Now keep in mind, I've never played any of the other Far Crys. The humor is awesome, even my watchful wife was laughing quite a bit. However, the gameplay is a bit frustrating. The dark environment did not bother me but aiming at the various soldiers did. Even on easy it seemed like way more difficult than necessary. Also, it seemed that once you got spotted, enemies could hit you from ridiculously far away (and occasionally through walls too). I like the game, but I am certainly not in love with it. Had it not been for the humor, I would have gave up on it quickly. Probably end up being a sale title if my second go with the trial doesn't produce significantly better results.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Add me to the "slightly underwhelmed" camp. I feel like it has a lot of ideas that are great in concept but falter in implementation. The art style looks great in screenshots, but when you're actually playing, everything looks so dark and muddy that you don't get a real sense of place. The humor is hit and miss: it's hilarious when it works, but grating when it doesn't. I think it's a good game, and I'll definitely play all the way through it, but the whole thing just feels a bit half-baked.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Guess I pretty much agree--Love the humor and '80s vibe, but it's just TOO DARK. That's really my only complaint. I love how they mixed the standard Far Cry 3 kills and feel with epic '80s awesomeness. Tracking? LOVE IT. I guess I'll just try crank up the brightness in the menu, which may help?

That's all pretty much the "classic" Far Cry formula.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I also thought the game was too dark. I liked the demo pretty much, but it did feel pretty generic in gameplay. It's certainly a game I'd like to play, but since it's on XBLA, PSN and Steam, and since there's no real reason to play it on one system over another (like no benefits unlocked for FC 3 and no multiplayer), I'm just going to wait for someone to put it on sale (or maybe for a PS Plus freebie ) before I pick it up. I don't think I'm missing out on anything by waiting.

Yep, and even maxed out it's still really dark. Also, the slider doesn't magically change the game and introduce daytime portions of the game, they really shot themselves in the foot with this ugly dark design.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I have not played it yet, though I bought it. I am a little worried about it being dark. I like dark levels when they have strong contrast and you can still see in the shadows. I hate having my vision reduced by nasty dark levels that most games use. As for the brightness slider, it has been my experience that using them just results in a washed out looking game which can almost be as distracting to me.

Kinda true, probably made worse by the (mostly) wide-open bright world of normal FC3. Still, I gotta admire the creativity and am still enjoying it.

Think I'll buy this on PC with all the dark complaints, my projector setup doesn't do well with overly dark games.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Just finished it and had a blast. I loved far cry 3, but almost would've preferred this be the one built out to be a full retail game. It was a riot and the gameplay was solid, as expected. I was a little worried about it being too dark on my projector after seeing some of the comments here, but am just confused now. I kept it on the default setting the whole game and never felt like it was too dark to see detail or be irritating. Between the garrison beacons and all the other neon shit, I constantly had plenty of light. Anyway, probably the funniest game I've played since portal 2. They really nailed the 80's B-sci-fi atmosphere and tone.

Yep, I don't get the dark complaints either, and I have a shit TV. I just finished as well, and holy god the last 3rd of that game. Wow.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

My PC version of the game won't save properly. Seems like an issue a lot of people are having too. The tutorial at the beginning was cute, but having to replay it makes it a chore. Ugh, guess I won't be playing this until Ubisoft fixes the issue.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I had some extra MS points laying around and decided to pick this up. Fun game so far. I bumped my brightness up a bit, I don't think its to dark.

The more I play it the more I like it. I too upped the brightness and it helps, and the gameplay keeps getting better & better.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

I don't know where you guys are getting this "too dark" problem.
I have the brightness on default (on a properly calibrated plasma) and I have no problem with the darkness and no problem seeing things. Sure, the color pallet of the game is dark, but it's a stylized decision and it doesn't get in the way of seeing things at all. If you bring up the brightness too much, the neon highlights will bloom and be too bright. There have been other, brighter, games that have had sections that have been too dark to see. This isn't one of them.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Played through it 100% and loved it. Visuals were a non-issue.

Apparently it's already sold around 120,000 units, and that's just on Xbox. Michael Biehn was on Major Nelson's podcast this weekend and claimed they're already looking at doing a sequel.

I don't want to try and hype anyone, but I'll just say that the last actual moment of gameplay in the game is the GREATEST THING EVER IN ANY VIDEO GAME EVER.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

The game is definitely getting better as I get further into it. I still think I prefer regular old Far Cry 3 to Blood Dragon, but for those who enjoyed the original game, I think BD is worth your 15 bucks.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)

Got this for free when I bought my PC, worked fine until the 3rd update now it crashes before the game starts.

Uninstalled, wiped the directory clean reinstalled. Same issue.

What a pain in the ass, now I know why I don't buy PC games anymore.
