SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

This series just won't go away. And I plan to enjoy the hell out of this one. Set for release in Feb of 2013.

I saw the presell cards the other day! I liked the original, and this looks excellent, so i'll probably be picking this up.

This looks amazing. I love the detail when building stuff, the ability to customize a power plant (and hopefully other buildings). The addition of sewage and garbage is interesting too. I seriously cannot wait for this game.

You mean like the one being released in 2 weeks!!!!?

...it's unfortunately a 3DS title.

Considering everything (new version for the 3DS, inquiry over "What you would like to seein RT4.", and sale of movie rights) I expect it won't be long before some sort of announcement with regards to an RT4.

Well that got my hopes up and then smashed it to pieces all in one fell swoop.

Sale of movie rights? A Rollercoaster Tycoon movie?

I laughed too -

If they had the directors of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs / 21 Jump Street do it I would go see it. But they're off doing a Legos movie.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

It looks pretty good, but I kind of wish EA would stop giving new games the same titles as the originals. We're accustomed to that with movie remakes, not so much with games. Although I guess if they keep doing it, we'll get used to it.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

New video shows off some of the disasters. Meteor showers, tornadoes, earthquakes, and UFO abductions.

I remember on the SNES game, one of the disasters was Bowser destroying the city like Godzilla.

This game just keeps getting more and more awesome.

This looks like a ton of fun. Have not played a Sim City game for ages, but this one looks like a blast. Can not wait for this to come out.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

This game has so much potential and looks really good, but I am still reserved about it and hoping it doesn't totally suck. My main concerns at this point are always online, the size of the cities, and limited content to leave room for endless DLC. The superhero preorder bonus isn't encouraging. I want a serious city simulator. Not a goofy sandbox village.

I haven't played one of these games in a while, but what exactly would you do online? It seems like a purely singleplayer game if there ever was one. Do you have two cities in the same area competing with each other somehow?

Games are saved to the cloud as well, it's a bit of their DRM.

In terms of actual Gameplay online -

From what I understand they want cities to set up relationships and economies with other peoples cities.

Yeah they are making the game more social so that there are multiple interacting cities in a region, with one or more other cities in your region owned by other players. This is why I am worried about the new game being more Farmville than classic SC.

While it sounds like you can lock a region for yourself to build on all the lots, the game STILL requires an internet connection. The game communicates with a server every few minutes and your game shuts off if it doesn't. So for the most part it is DRM, and it will also allow EA to essentially shut off your game whenever Sim City 6 comes out. Just another step towards a future where we don't actually own the content we buy.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

Yeah, server shutdown would be my big worry. I should be able to play any game I buy forever, but I wouldn't be able to with this one.

I have absolutely no desire to play any of the online components of this game, and without an offline mode, I doubt I'm buying this.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

This was one of my most anticipated games of 2013, but EA continues to be more evil than pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and the Republican Party combined. Amongst all of their other bonehead decisions in 2011 and 2012, the fact that this needs to be connected to the internet due to DRM is retarded. EA just announced today they're pulling the plug on numerous games today. What's to stop them from doing this to the game in five years?

I'd rather have them kiss my ass and then give them a fucking dime.

This is starting to remind me of the last big failed attempt to revitalize a dying PC franchise - Microsoft Flight

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

I don't give a shit about the required online connection because I always have an online connection, and in the rare cases where I don't, I probably have bigger problems to worry about than being able to play SimCity.

Anyway, I think this game looks awesome, and I can't wait to play it.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

Superheroes and villians? Ugh, that sounds incredibly lame and inappropriate for a SimCity game. I hope EA doesn't DLC us to death.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

That first video looked really, really good. I liked how everything was connected. The second video about disasters and UFOs looked incredibly cheesy. I'd rather have a simulator where you can choose taxes, hold local elections, and deal with real social problems.
