Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)
Fuuuuuuuuckkkk... Just had a meltdown at my Nuclear power plant. Now like a quarter of my land is uninhabitable. Really stupid how it happened too. You need some unknown number of skilled labor (which you can only control by the number of higher education schools you have), but you can't dictate where they work or anything. So I was doing fine, next thing I know, my number of skilled laborers drops, and my power plant is in danger. I tried countering it by building another community college, but it was too late.
I was concerned I'd be up playing all night again, but that has put an end to my marathon for today. The limited city size is a huge turn off, it forces you to play the game in a specific way which I don't like at all (maximizing real estate). Makes it feel very linear. Not to mention how unfair it is for plots of land that have large portions of water or hills.
This game will probably be great, just give it three years, a dozen patches, and several expansions.

So basically wait for a super edition to come out so we don't have to be nickel and dimed by EA? Add another 200,000 population for only $9.99!!
Thanks. I tried it out but it felt kind of cheap. The elevators didn't move, they let me build a pizza shop that stuck out over the lobby and the droid people were walking in mid air lol
Is Yoot Tower a lot better?

Pretty much. I mean if you're a diehard Sim City fan, buy it, but wait for it to go on sale at least a bit. The games infrastructure seems solid, it just needs some work. Increasing the city size would help, but they already said it's going to be a large undertaking, because as things currently stand it was only designed with 32-bit in mind, and they would need to create a 64-bit version to increase the city size... which would of course mean people running 32-bit Windows wouldn't be able to have the bigger city sizes. I'm not sure they want to segregate their user base like that though.

I guess the requirements aren't that high but I'm surprised anyone still uses 32 bit Windows.

30 minute queue to login to the server I'm on. Seriously, Fuck You EA. I've went from really enjoying to hating this game in the last few days since it was released.
BTW if anyone is playing, be very careful with Nuclear Power Plants. If you have a meltdown, the land will be forever irradiated. I left it going 5 years and it didn't dissipate at all. My meltdown pretty much randomly occurred (see my earlier post). You can't even delete the city or anything, you are just stuck with it forever. You can abandon it, but if you continue to play in that region (or anyone else is) it will always be there.

Let me get this straight. You have to wait 30 minutes to start to play a game that you paid $60 for and you already downloaded to your computer? Seriously?

Although it's funny because EA was pretty confident to not have the same type of launch issues that Diablo 3 had when it was released last year.

That's happened somewhat regularly with MMO's.

Oh nice. If you decide to try to play on another server your games don't go with you and you have to play through the tutorial again. What is this I don't even

Really? Cities don't carry over from one server to another?
FWIW, I've only made one city so far, on North America West 1.

Yeah, I was willing to overlook the online stuff, but everything I've heard so far has me really upset about it. I will probably still pick it up Friday, because I love this type of game. But I'm really pissed EA has the license. This game needs an offline mode, and there is no good reason not to offer it. None at all. It is shocking that I might have to queue up to play a single player game, and if this is a sign of things to come, EAs demise can't come soon enough for me. Maxis will survive without them.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)
After playing it for some time, I can agree, there is no reason this game needed to be online only. Unfortunately since it has been built with that sort of infrastructure in place, it's going to be quite a task for them to create an offline only mode. So they probably won't bother.
The one thing they do basically force on you is that you need to rely on other cities in a region. It's impossible to have a "jack of all trades" city, there just isn't enough room. It's actually pretty pathetic how small the cities are.

It doesn't make it easier, it just requires it. SimCity shouldn't be about restrictions.
Oh, and you know how SimCity 4 got a traffic expansion since it was so terrible... this one needs one too. The logic is downright fucktarded. I saw a row of cars literally just make a u-turn from one block to the next, over and over like 30 times, until they eventually all turned right. Lots and lots of stupid logic in place. You should see how a fleet of garbage trucks is dispatched.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)
And the lol's continue...
* Fix for crash caused most commonly occurring on servers experiencing lag. This crash would happen most often when claiming a new city when playing in a region.
* Fix for server select dialog not appearing on start-up if the server the player was last on is not available.
* Disabled Cheetah speed. Cheetah speed is is now the same as llama speed.
* Crash fix for finding closest points.
* Crash fixes in transport and pedestrian code.
* A fix cities having processing problems associated with helicopters.
