Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection - 2022

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection Coming To Console Systems

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection Coming To Console Systems

Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are back from the sewers with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection! In collaboration with Nickelodeon, thirteen radical games from KONAMI’s entire archive of retro 8-bit, 16-bit, and arcade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) titles and their Japanese versions* will be coming to PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC Steam. Physical retail and digital versions will be available in 2022 at SRP $39.99.

This incredible collection of thirteen original classics gives chasing down Shredder, fighting the Foot, and tangling-up with Bebop and Rocksteady a fresh look at why KONAMI’s adaptations of the heroes in a half shell set the standard in beat ‘em up, action games. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection includes:

• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy)

KONAMI partnered with game developer Digital Eclipse to expertly adapt these classics for modern gaming systems with a fantastic set of quality-of-life features including save anytime and rewind, button mapping, and added online play for certain games** with local couch play for all titles where originally intended. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection will also come with a digital game guide for each title to help players fight and sometimes swim through difficult areas.

The games are based on the characters and themes of the 80's children's cartoon and comic book series, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles often taking place in a fictionalized New York City, around the sewers, inside futuristic enemy bases and even across time itself! In collaboration with Nickelodeon, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection will also include loads of extras using imagery from the original cartoons, comics and other historic TMNT media content in a compiled Museum connecting the franchise across the various mediums. Additionally, never-before-seen development art, sketches and game design material will also be included.

*11 Japanese regional versions total -No Japanese versions released for TMNT (Arcade) and TMNT: Tournament Fighters (NES)
**Titles with online functionality -TMNT (Arcade), TMNT: Turtles in Time (Arcade), TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, TMNT Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)

This is pretty cool. Played a lot of these as a kid, but there are some games I’m not familiar with too. I’ll grab a copy for sure.

This is amazing!

TMNT: Tournament Fighters (SNES) and Turtles In Time (Arcade) having online functionality is all I needed to hear

Wow. That is fantastic. Next to Simpson’s Arcade, the original arcade game is one I’ve wanted to have an easy to own version of for years.

That’s how you do a compilation disc.

Yes! Yet another reason to not pull the trigger on the home arcade systems. I'm in 100% on this.

Take my money!

A few years back I had finished up my MAME cabinet and showed my son - then 9 - TMNT Arcade (as it was one of my favorite games as a kid). Since he had unlimited credits, he beat the game in about an hour or so and said "what the heck, it's over??". I explained that that hour he spent was equivalent to about $40 in quarters and an entire summer of trying to beat the game!

I'm definitely getting this. I played the NES game all the time back in the day. I always struggled in the underwater level where you had to diffuse bombs.

I remember finally passing that area, but then getting stuck where you had to blow up the barriers with rockets in the turtle van. I would always somehow run out of rockets and not know how to progress.

I would pay full price if the release was just Arcade with online play. Everything else seems like a freebie.

The first NES game was always tough. That was one of the games my family actually owned and I always wanted to like it but struggled with it.

I enjoyed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II for the NES quite a bit more. I don’t remember if I’ve played The Manhattan Project. I feel like I did but not as much as the second game.

I also enjoyed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters on Genesis (I don’t recall playing it on NES, and I didn’t play the SNES version until later).

Surprisingly I know of Turtles in Time, but I don’t think I’ve played a lot of it either.

Probably will be -30% off on release day for PC (like most games if you know where to look for sales)... so I'll buy it then.

Getting this. Can’t believe there’s online functionality, that’s great. I don’t think I ever played the original arcade game. I remember Turtles in Time had a human April on the side of the cabinet.

Also looking forward to Shredder’s Revenge.

Glad to see it's got both arcade games and their NES/SNES ports. I was afraid it was only going to have the latter.

The Genesis and Game Boy titles will be new to me. Although, why two separate ports for Tournament Fighters?

Tournament Fighters was on NES as well as SNES/Genesis. They’re all unique even though they’re all essentially the same game.

Honestly, that's what's keeping me from buying, I love the first part of the original TMNT NES game, but I have never in all these years been able to get past the swimming stage. My reflexes weren't good enough as a kid and they're certainly not good enough now.

I have much more patience now then I did when I was a controller tossing kid. I will get through that DAM LEVEL!

I didn't even notice that this also has an NES version of Tournament Fighters. Back in the day, I only knew of the Genesis and SNES versions (only played the latter) and assumed they were both identical.
