Ratchet & Clank HD Collection spotted on Amazon

Amazon France has listed a HD compilation of Ratchet & Clank games for the PlayStation 3, although no details are provided and the game hasn't been officially announced.

A Ratchet & Clank compilation has seemed inevitable for some time now, and unusually nobody even seems to have bothered to take the listing for Ratchet & Clank - HD collection down from the Amazon France website yet.

According to the listing the game is out on May 16 on PlayStation 3, which is a bit soon for something that hasn't been announced yet, or even hinted at by Sony, but does seem possible.

Since action platformer Ratchet & Clank is more financially successful than a number of other franchises that have received HD Collections - such as Sly Cooper and Jak And Daxter - it's something of a surprise that there hasn't been a compilation before this.

The only problem is likely to be just how many Ratchet & Clank games there are. Even though these sort of collections are notoriously incomplete there are four games on the PlayStation 2, three on the PlayStation 3 and a number of spin-offs.

We'd imagine that the HD Collection would only contain the story-led PlayStation 2 games, so that's the original Ratchet & Clank from 2002, 2003's Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked And Loaded, and 2004's Ratchet & Clank 3.

If you're lucky you might also get Ratchet: Gladiator from 2005, although it's more of an arena-based shooter in which Clank barely stars, so we can imagine Sony cutting corners and leaving that one out. Especially as it has a strong multiplayer focus too.

As you can see developer Insomniac really used to knock these games out back in the day, but they haven't produced a proper new one since 2009's Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time on the PlayStation 3. The core series seems to be on hiatus now, as Insomniac concentrate on multiformat games such as Overstrike, although the duo are still appearing in other games, such as last year's disappointing co-op title Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.

If there is an official announcement about the HD Collection we'll let you know, but we'd be surprised if it wasn't real.

Loved the trilogy on ps2. Not much of a fan of the fourth title. I'll definitely be picking this up if it ends up coming out.

Metro isn't what I'd call a reputable website. That being said, if an HD collection came out it'd be a day one purchase for me.

We heard rumors from Europe that Jak and Daxter was coming and it turned out to be true. I'm hoping the same thing applies here.

Even though Sony and Insomniac have actually yet to formally announce the Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy Collection for PS3, it’s box art has surfaced with a promise from 9Lives.be that it will drop in Europe on May 16th.

Gametrailers mentioned the spring release for Europe and fall for the U.S., with the delay being caused by the previously-mentioned special release stuff. Unfortunately, the line about needing to work it out with our retail partners reeks to me of the usual "From Amazon, get a special hat for Ratchet! From Best Buy, get a special glove for Clank!" PS3 games are region-free, right? If so, pretty sure I'll just order in May from amazon.co.uk.

I think you can take off the rumor in the title as this is definitely being released in North America in early Fall.

Man, I'd love a Vita version of this collection. I'm buying it regardless. Love those games so much.

I wonder if they'll re-record Ratchet's lines in R&C 1. The guy who did it was fired for making Ratchet seem like an asshole and his replacement has been voicing Ratchet ever since.

I don't think I'd even go back and play the first. 2 and 3 blew it out of the water. It was great for it's time when we had no other r & c to compare to. But now it's seems so much slower and boring if you've played the sequels.

2 and 3 are awesome. I replayed them not too long ago and they still hold up. 1 not so much.

Well, the US version is coming on Aug 28th for $29.99. They promised us in the US "Something very special for the 10th anniversary" to make up for the extended wait we had compared to Europe and Japan where the game is already out and boy, did they deliver -- we get early access to the Sly Cooper PS3 demo! Yeah, that was a huge payoff right there.
