Star Trek games
Anyone know how good Star Trek is for games? I know Star Wars has had a pretty respectable gaming history, Shadows of the Empire being one of the highlights and since all the KOTOR/Squadron games too. But for Trek, many places say "Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (2000)" was a really good one and "Star Trek: Bridge Commander (2002)". Any word on these or any other notable ones that you may have played?

Re: Star Trek games
Star Trek is a franchise they just can't get right no matter how hard they try. I'd KILL to see a Trek game done by BioWare.
The PC FPS games like Elite Force were the best it ever got. Star Trek 25th Anniversary is good, but obviously dated.
Star Trek Legacy on current systems should have been great, but they forgot to add in checkpoints, and when you get 25 minutes into a space battle and end up having to start it all over again, well... screw that.

Re: Star Trek games
There's a new Star Trek game slated for this year:

It looks like a TPS with the name Star Trek slapped on it but it looks fun nonetheless.
As for Star Wars, Ioved the Rogue Squadron games but hated Shadows of the Empire (though I really enjoyed the novel and have the score).

Re: Star Trek games
So Star Trek: The Game was released today. I haven't seen any reviews for it really yet but am thinking about grabbing it after work. The game takes place between the events of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness. Just thought I'd bump this thread for any Trek fans who might be interested.

That was a bit concerning to me too regarding how good the quality of it seeing as we haven't gotten reviews yet. I'm hoping it's good but I do agree that it could potentially end up cheaper in a couple months or so. Maybe it would be better to sit this one out for a while.

Re: Star Trek games
It's really surprising that this game has kept such a low profile. Yes, it was on the cover of XBOX Magazine last Fall, but I've seen no ads, no in-store displays, no pre-order promotions. With that license and the full participation of the movie cast, you'd expect more. Also, I'm surprised it's coming out now rather than in three weeks when the next movie premieres -- seems like a no-brainer to tie it to the movie release if it's ready in the same time-frame.

^^ Well, everything ends up cheaper in a couple of months... but will this one be $19.99 cheap or $49.99 cheap?

Re: Star Trek games
I did a little googling, sounds like the game has a good story and Kirk and Spock are well realized, but the gameplay is often clunky. But hey, it has a 3D option!

My copy was delivered yesterday, but I have been keeping it sealed in the case it sucks. At least I can still return it.

This game is alright. There's some jank, but overall it doesn't feel like a cheap cash-in. The entire cast voices their characters, there are good variations in the gameplay... pleasantly surprised so far.

So what's a fair price to pay for it?

Re: Star Trek games
For a game that has been in development for over 2 years it sure has some shitty textures and animations, at least on the console. Dunno if the PC version is any count or not.

I just wish a real studio would get the Trek license. These games are always made by the smallest studios without the resources to do them justice.

Re: Star Trek games
I picked it up last night and while it isn't perfect I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. I wound up playing it for like six hours until 5 in the morning last night which is a rarity. The game play can get clunky at times and you can play as Kirk or Spock and whomever you choose the other tags with. I picked Kirk and I sometimes find Spock holding me up or getting in the way but not too bad. The story seems alright too. Overall I'd say I'm enjoying it and I got my copy at WalMart so it has $20 worth of movie cash for Into Darkness so not a bad deal.
