Sonic Frontiers - 11/8/22 (PS, Xbox, Switch)

I was a little surprised to see there's not a thread on this yet, so here goes! Sonic meets Breath of the Wild. I've never played a 3D Sonic game, I'm kind of intrigued, but also kind of expecting to hate it. I guess I'll wait for reviews and all that.

Re: Sonic Frontiers - 11/8/22 (PS, Xbox, Switch)

As rough as the early showings were, Frontiers has been getting a lot of praise more recently, and the previews at Gamescom and EGX have me thinking I need to add this to my wish list after all.

I bought it. Haven’t played a Sonic game since Sega Genesis. Always loved it though. The video reviews sold me.

Which ones? The reviews I have seen are pretty middling. IGN game it a 7.

So did Game Spot

Re: Sonic Frontiers - 11/8/22 (PS, Xbox, Switch)

IGN said 7 which is “good”. They liked it overall and didn’t like combat too much. Good to me is fine and having Sonic in an open world setting is very intriguing to me. So, I think I’ll enjoy something platformy for a change. Why are you always questioning my rationale and purchasing? Why the f do you care? This is like 2 in a row. Lay off and myob.

Whoa, settle down, OB. I asked a simple question without any negative connotation. You said "the review sold me" so I assumed it was a more enthusiastically positive review than that one. You can buy whatever you want. I was just curious as I am still on the fence about that game and that same IGN review didn't sell me on it.

I played almost an hour tonight. I had a lot of fun. It’s fast as hell and looked gorgeous.

Cool. I want to try it.
I think a one-hour trial is included with PS Plus Premium.

The pop-in looks terrible on that IGN review. That might really bug me.

Kind of thinking about getting this with Target’s but two get one free deal if it’s eligible.

It’s an interesting blend of side scroll and 3D open world action game. I’m glad I tried it out a little bc so far so good.

I think it looks good too, but I'm going to wait for a sale. I have a big backlog of games. I need to finish Luigi's Mansion 3 and play a few Playstation games first.

Looks like this is going to be $29 at Walmart on the 21st. I'm tempted to pick it up for that price.

Oh damn. I’ll probably have to pick this up then. My friend is giving me his PS4 as he has a PS5 and is looking to get rid of it. Not sure if I’ll pick up the game on Switch or PS4. Probably will also get Spider-Man: Miles Morales too.

those are some great prices. Too bad not for digital. That never goes down huh? Only physical goes down in price. Digital not so much and nothing to really kick heels over when it does go down.

You could have saved money on games by buying the PS5 disc version.

What? Digital doesn't have the same constraints as physical but digital deals have historically been great with the (major) exception of Nintendo.

Ok. My bad. I didn’t think they ever went down by much. I guess I remember getting deals on digital and free ones on Game Pass and PS Plus.

It always seem like the big exclusive games go on sale quicker on disc than digital. The disc version tends to be cheaper than digital during sales.

nah, I just wanted digital. I loathe physical game discs. I love the freedom of digital. Never a doubt my PS5 was going to be digital edition.

This is usually by design at least historically because the game companies didn't want to undercut the physical stores who sell their games, particularly brand new games. And stores especially around this time are using them as loss leaders or trying to free up inventory. But there have still been some incredible deals on digital.
