Did you have a shiv? You can only stealth kill them with a shiv. Don't bother sneaking up on them otherwise.

It's funny that you mention Tomb Raider because this game has exactly the approach to combat that I wish Tomb Raider had, instead of boatloads of ammo and waves of enemies.

I haven't had any issues with the controls here either, but i'm still a little bit bored with the story about 8 hours in.

It really picks up once Winter rolls around, IMO. Though that's like 3/4's into the game.

I ended up really liking it, but due to the subject matter alone, I don't see myself ever replaying it. It was a great story, though. I could easily see this being a film (and this being the current video games industry, I'm sure they're already shopping it around).

Just wrapped it up. Very emotional game. I thought it was well worth the $59.99 I spent. One of my favorites of this generation for sure.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Finished it this morning. Definitely one of the best games I've played this generation.

Loved the pacing, atmosphere, and acting.

Combat was also fantastic, once you get over the initial learning curve, the amount of options you have to approach each encounter keeps things fresh throughout.

Story was pretty by the numbers, but the acting really kept it interesting even though it was pretty obvious where it was headed.

I played through it on Hard and would definitely recommend not doing it on normal. If you can handle dying a lot in the beginning, it pays off for the rest of the game.

Just started it. The beginning was definitely sad, but nothing compared to Up like someone mentioned.

Didn't say it was like Up in the emotional sense, referred to it that the game blows its wad in the first 20 minutes and still hasn't recovered. Just like Up.

It's not bad. I hate sneaking around all the time though. Good game but hardly a ten. I'd say it's a 7.

Yeah, I'm about an hour in, and I'm really hating all the stealth that seems to be required in the game. I didn't expect it to be a stealth game. It's a good game otherwise, solid story so far and cool setting.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Finally started last night. Gave it 90-120 minutes or so. Fantastic intro, but some of you need to turn in your man cards. Crying? Come on, it was well done but they give you no emotional attachment to justify tears. You gotta earn that shit like Pixar did with the aforementioned Up.

I'm not a fan of stealth games, but I don't mind it on occasion depending on the game. However I keep accidentally bumping the R2 button sending me into 'listen' mode. Fucking Dual Shock.

I agree completely. The intro was fucking amazing, but yeah, no emotional attachment to the characters at all at that point, so I wasn't the least bit teary eyed or emotional. It was a bit of a surprise for me though, because I haven't followed the story of this game at all before release, so I thought that the girl that's with you the whole time was his daughter. Didn't know they would jump ahead in time so much as well (although it makes sense going by the screenshots I've seen of the game).

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

I actually felt nothing with the intro because I thought the girl that was in the demo and artwork for the game was your daughter. So when she got shot in the intro, I just assumed she'd survive. So I was just waiting for her to get re-introduced, but when it turned out that that girl isn't your daughter, I just shrugged, since the scene was already long past.

Yeah, not having followed the game super closely, the first thing I thought was "that girl looks nothing like Ellen Page... did they change the design?" That made it have a bigger impact because it was completely unexpected. Of course, having a daughter myself probably helps (but I didn't cry... wimps).

On a side note, I watched Up with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and that opening still gets me... so I am a wimp.

that PA is spot on.

Just finished it. I'd say, outside of the Mass Effect series, this game had one of the plots of any game in my memory. Fantastic story. I was frustrated by the controls many times, and by how cheap some of the enemies are, but overall, it was a highly enjoyable experience.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

I'm at the point where you first start to fight the clickers, and I think I'm done with this game already. It just feels way too damn tedious, and having to replay the same damn section over and over is boring as shit. Seriously, I don't get how this game got such great reviews.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)

Have you never played any stealth game before, ever? Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell were never a walk in the park, and required replaying the same parts over and over again.

Some people just like stealth, and I guess some don't. However, it's definitely far more challenging, and therefore intriguing, to actually have to sneak around and try different things instead of constantly running and gunning.

The clickers seem easy to me.
1.Throw brick or bottle
2.Sneak up and use the Shiv

I'm focusing all my upgrades on the Shiv. I just got then one where if a clicker attacks you can use the Shiv to break them off from you. I also stock up on Shivs when I'm crafting.

What difficulty are people playing on? That could make a difference. Shipwreck on CAG recommended easy and since I'm not a stealth fan I figured 'why not?' I can't recall the last game I did on easy, but it does sound like this one gets frustrating. I'd rather swallow my gamer pride and enjoy the experience than bang my head against the wall just to make it through normal.

I'm playing it on Normal but when I died enough times, a prompt at the loading said you can change difficulty at any time. So if Easy is too easy you can just switch to normal.

It'd help if the stealth in this game wasn't absolutely horrible. It's worse than the original Splinter Cell.

The more I play it, the better it gets. But still not worthy of a ten.

New rating 7.8.
